Hey everybody! Hope all is going well. Wanted to possibly see if we can get a list of items that would be good to bring on this summers culp mission. My DS is slated for Estonia and hopefully we can get some feedback on what would be nice to bring for the trip. I'm sure they will have a packing list, but the list was helpful for ciet training last year.

DS is headed to Liberia. We are hoping they provide him one of these: 800.jpg

Pack extra civy clothes. The cadets will usually do a decent amount of traveling out of uniform and they always seemed to underpack civvies.

pack things to trade. You will trade patches with the army you work with.-anything americanish

I haven't been to Europe since the cell phone explosion, are phone cards still the cheapest or prepaid cell phone?

It depends on what he will be using the phone for. My DS is currently out of the country studying. He and his friends chose not to get a phone in the country they are in (just to communicate with others in that country-would not have helped him to communicate with us). We ultimately ended up adding an International plan to his cell phone. It has enough texts and minutes (100 a month) and a bit of data so I am confident he can get us in an emergency, and I can send him unlimited texts, so if I have to get a hold of him that way it is very easy. We primarily communicate on the computer, where he has to have access to wifi. Facetime, Facebook messenger, phone or video calls are all free. We also use WeChat, which has the same as facebook, also free.

Soccmom, if you don't mind me asking, how much was the add on for the texts and limited minutes? Sounds like a good idea.

We have Verizon. It was $40 a month for 100mb, 100 outgoing texts (from his end), unlimited incoming texts, and 100 minutes of calls either made or received. I know AT&T has something similar, but with unlimited texts both ways, and the calling is more limited.
