Just spoke with Admissions this morning, company lists were mailed out today!! :yay:

I didn't ask, I did try to find out what company my midn son is in(because I missed the facebook post) but they would not tell me... :frown:

im curious about how this works. the mail just came and my parents received 2 letters. one had the info that i am in B company, 4th platoon, but no more. I assume this is just for plebe summer then. any way to know any more detail?

After Plebe Summer, you will be in 4th Company. You use B Co 4th Platoon for mail during plebe summer. Your detailers will be getting your mail for you. Sometime after PPW, you will get mailbox keys and will start getting your own mail. That's when you start using the PO Box number.

I know that most if not all of the company's have nick-names, can anyone enlighten us to what those are? The only one I know for sure is 03 company - Third Herd - because of the Spirit Spots I've seen...

Thanks!

I will be interested to see what the latest names are ... these can change, but some stick around for a long time. "Free 19" actually dates to the late 90's when I was there, when the company messed something up royally, and they all got fried and restricted. I can't remember what it was ...:shake:

Just found this link. All the patches appear to be current. I know 9th has changed theirs from what is depicted. Unfortunately for the underclass, 2010 is the only class that currently rates wearing patches on our Ike jackets, as we were the last ones to be ordered class-wide to put them on.

Some underclass put the patches on on their own accord, but word came down last semester that they weren't authorized to do so. We'll see if it changes this year.

Should be fortunately for the underclass. The patches look silly on an Ike jacket, and when you finally graduate and remove the patch, there's a pretty good chance the inequal fade will require buying a new jacket. Not to mention that the year the patch/nickname system was introduced, some companies' firsties intentionally chose embarassing and stupid company logos, knowing they would never use them.

Authorized as in they aren't allowed to or they just don't have to? I will be in 28th company and I think their logo is pretty cool. It wouldn't be tradition if i didn't have it on my jacket.

They aren't allowed to, and were told to remove them if they had them on their jackets.

Steve-
I thought that when we first had to put them on plebe year. Coming from NROTC, I thought it would look stupid on the jacket. I like my company's patch (26) and I know now that I'll keep my jacket as-is...It's just something uniquely 'Academy' that I'll hold on to instead of trashing like my blues.

Free 19 will always be!

The patches were a horrible idea and I believe the reason was based solely on mimicking USAFA and USMA.

And if you wanted to wear your Ike Jacket on liberty, you couldn't because it had patches on it and that wasn't authorized -- makes perfect sense to require everyone to put a patch on the jacket, but not allow them to wear it on liberty. I ended up having to buy another one because the area covered by the patches was too faded to look professional.

I am glad we stopped the patches.

Thanks for the link! I remember a few of these from NASS last year.

Sorry - total noob question here... what is an Ike jacket? Can anyone post a link to what it looks like? Oh, and have they done away with the patches? I'm getting the impression from you guys that they are no longer required.

the ike jacket is a black eisenhower(not an english major) jacket, use google for pics.

As for the patch's they were required for about a year, when the administration thought they would be a good idea, to pretend we were like army or air force. Then when they actually saw what we all looked like with the goofy things on are jackets realized we all looked awful and had to wait a year or so to get rid of them so they didn't look foolish.

"Yard" is the USNA campus, and mid's call the rampant squirrel population there "Yard Dogs." I suspect there are other interpretations of the expression, too, but I believe the "Yard Dog" co. insignia is a squirrel.

Man those patches were the dumbest thing anyone ever came up with. They are not uniquely Academy. They were uniquely stupid. Go Iron Man and wear no jacket until it gets cold enough to don the reefer. That jacket is great for inducing sleep in class. Pop the collar up and the professor might not even notice your eyes closing up.
