Another Important Matter Concerning the Existence of Humanity- Coffee

I don't think I've ever started a thread on the Forums, but I saw something in the King Hall Food thread that triggered me...someone posted about liking coffee, but then went on about adding cream and sugar. I didn't want to hijack that thread, so I'll put it here:

1) A coffee order should consist of two syllables --Large Black; anything else is Foo -Foo juice.
2) Coffee mugs don't need to be washed. (I have this stainless steel mug, bought at LL Bean when I was stationed in Brunswick, has sat on my desk for almost 30 years (Navy and Law office). This may be sacrilege to some (particularly the Chiefs Petty Officers I know), but I do a deep clean once a year --bringing it home for 2-3 days over New Years, soaking it in baking soda or Efferdent, so it sparkles like new.
3) Coffee shops (particularly at airports) should have two lines, one for Coffee and one for Foo-Foo juice. Nothing is worse than waiting in line while some millenial snowflake has her order for a petite , soy milk , latte with three pumps of caramel filled.

Just saying !

Haha I remember a previous discussion about coffee in years past, and what I remember vividly, is the “furry cup” discussion. No washing. I concur. And am furry. And am a better person for it.

Very dark roast, Arabic or African beans. Just enough half and half to slightly lighten the brew (Because the Doc tells me I shouldn't). Clean ceramic mug with a past family vacation or USMA logo. Rinse and repeat. This time of year is also the best for it. Gotta feed the monkey on my back....

For coffee-ordinaire I like Folgers Black Silk. I also like Cafe Bustelo in the French press, especially when camping.

I'm with @Old Navy BGO in that coffee shouldn't have anything in it, but I'm okay with you foo-foo drinkers and you shouldn't feel ashamed of it.
I would imagine that it may still be different in The Fleet though. Putting stuff in your coffee used to be a sign of weakness.

What is it about coffee at wedding receptions? It seems like every time I go to a wedding, the coffee is really good. Now, if weddings only had pie in lieu of cake to go with my coffee, I would probably be a serial wedding-crasher.

You know, pie with bacon on it, of course.

I am by no means a Coffee snob... as long as its black and hot, its all good. I rarely go to a coffee shop...except when traveling, At home, I have a Keurig, make a go cup for the drive into work, and if I don't drink it all on the way in, drink it cold on the way home. Our office coffee comes from one of those industrial vendors, and is horrible.

I am going to be a serious audience at this Important Matter thread, because I don’t drink coffee, never liked the smell or taste. It wasn’t until years later I realized why. When I was 4, I woke up in the night and smelled something bad and walked toward the kitchen, which was on fire. My parents had a big electric percolator coffee pot and one of those timer things, which must have gone bad, according to the firefighters. I ran and woke my parents, scared silly. The kitchen was burned up, house was saved. I realized I associated a burned coffee smell with that incident.

So - I shall enjoy but have zip to add. I’ll sip my silver tips white tea whilst observing.

Add:
DH’s current favorite, Peet’s Big Bang.

There's coffee and then there's coffee. I like coffee and enjoy it when there's good stuff to be had, but I don't go too far out of my way to acquire it. So large black when buying at a gas station or McD's or swilling the free stuff at work, but medium black when drinking nice stuff at a friend's house, restaurant or shop. And if someone's walking around with a bottle of Bailey's...

I also am quite fond of Douwe Egberts coffee, which Burger King used to have but no more.
McDonald's coffee is always good, in my opinion as well. Not much of a Starbucks fan, but their Americano is good.

Speaking of Americano, they make a nice cup of that at any Copper Moon coffee shop I have visited. Usually in airports.

Spent my youth in the UK (air force brat). Tea...now there's a thread we could go with...

Coffee? Uh...was told at the academy"Oh, before you graduate it'll be your lifeblood." Nope. In pilot training"this will keep you alive with the early missions, the late missions, the constant stand-bye to stand-bye..." Uh, sorry...no.

To this day, can't stand the smell or taste.

Now...Earl Gray, a good Darjeeling, or...

But I'm not here to hijack the thread! For most of my friends and colleagues...coffee is essential to life!

Oh...to give some positive input (maybe) DW is a coffee drinker and has tried all the "big names" and has decided that McDonald's "normal cup" is just fine!

Steve

Keurig folks, I was once like you. But like the subjects of Platos Allegory of the Cave, I saw the light. Please, for your own good, leave the false sanctuary of the Keurig cave of convenience and ecological disaster. Step out and drink the dark brown ambrosia known as la colombe Corsica roast (can get shipped direct!); grind it just before and use an aeropress.
You’re welcome.

Steve, shipmate, I’m toasting you with my tea mug! The Navy didn’t succeed in overcoming my dislike of the smell or taste.

I drink mine black and hot, pretty much continually until noon at work. I have a Keurig in my office and I’m not overly picky about the brand of cups as long as there’s no silly flavorings in it. And it’s always in my SAF mug.

I could never get a k-cup to be strong enough. Ever. Bought my own reusable k-cup Insert and pack it full of a Starbucks French Roast (haven’t found a good alternative but am open to suggestions...). I AM a coffee snob. Traveling is difficult.

SAF MUG? But how and where?

Not sure when coffee became so popular with baristas and specialty shops on every corner.

I remember vividly how the old crotchety staff NCO’s drank “lifer juice” when none of the junior Marines had ever had a cup in their young lives (circa early ‘80’s).

I started drinking it in college and lived on it ever since - except for a brief period in OCS where we were allowed water or milk only!

Do you that don’t enjoy coffee, enjoy chocolate covered beans? Those are a decadent request often from my MIDN.

I can take a bite out of a nice fancy dark chocolate brownie and immediately realize there is coffee or espresso in it. Just can’t do it, despite my love of chocolate.
