Considering SS is a recruitment effort, am I incorrect to assume admissions may not look at my application as favorable? I attend a DoDEA school, hold a leadership officer rank in JROTC, dad was active duty as now works as a civilian for DoD. My academics, athletics and leadership are solid, but I'm thinking that the application evaluators are going to see me as already committed to applying for an appointment and accepting if offered. Or am I over thinking this?

You are overthinking it. There are different reasons people are selected. Could be a geographical element to it. Maybe not. Maybe you are a targeted school, or hold an under represented element. Maybe you are someone they do want to target. Maybe you are applying from an area they are trying to target. Who knows…there is no one single criteria that fits every situation. Nor will you know why you, or someone else, is selected. The important thing is to know that selection doesn’t indicate an appointment. And of thosE ultimately appointed, most did not attend NASS.
