Anxious mom seeks advice

DS still CPR for USNA. I know April 15th is the deadline but it’s a Sunday; can’t receive mail on a Sunday. How else do candidates get notified? Email? Portal? Phone call? He just wants this to be over so he can fully commit to one place. Registration papers sent to VMI. Happy and grateful for Plan B working out. Just want to know where he’s going so we can make plans. My husband had to give his place of work dates for vacation requests this summer. I gave him 2 lists: one for VMI and one for USNA. ;)
I assume that April 15 in this context is just like it is for income taxes. If it falls on a Sunday then they aren't due until the 16th. Just my guess though. Congrats on a great backup plan.

It’s official. DS got the denial email tonight from USNA. He doesn’t even seem upset. In fact he showed me the email and it looks like a copy cutter denial letter because it’s signed from Office of Admissions, not a specific person, and it gives other options for the officer route which he already has, wouldn’t they know that? Don’t they have access to his Navy ROTC application? Regardless, he says he’s relieved and happy with VMI. He said he was impressed by the staff at VMI, their courtesy when we visited, and their letters of congratulations and encouragement. I’m just happy we’ve come to the end of this road and now we can prepare for the next turn ahead. Thank you to all advisors on this forum. I am most gracious for your support. This anxious mom can finally get a good night’s sleep tonight. Tomorrow is a new day.

Welcome to an extraordinary family! Rah Virginia Mil!

Be sure to look on Facebook for the VMI Rat Mass 2019+3 Parent Page. I can’t post the link ... forum rules ... but you should find good info and comradery there with other Rat parents. Feel free to PM me either questions. Turtlerunner and EOS/SEALmom are also good sources.

Meant to say: EOD/SEALmom

The Academy decisions are made in Annapolis while the Navy ROTC decisions are made in Pensacola.
They did not share any information in the past. They do today, but only to make sure those that show up for plebe summer do not retain their NROTC scholarship.

Recruiters used to/may still be able to see appointments to the Academy and approach candidates with NROTC applications. That made some people believe the two groups talked.

Congratulations to your DS on a great path to his goal via VMI and the NROTC scholarship. This is a great plan, so he is right to focus his energy on VMI and take the USNA denial in stride as he has. Buckle up for a challenging time as a parent while he navigates Rat year. It will be tough, but he can do it and you will both be so proud when he is on the other side looking back. If he puts the effort in (and I'm sure he will) he has a great future ahead of him with the path he has chosen.

I am flabbergasted to read "children of Medal of Honor winners" on the USNA website. Surely, some civilian wrote that.
(Qualified candidates who are children of Medal of Honor recipients are automatically offered appointments, as they should be).

Guess what everybody? I saw that same thing ("winners") was still on the web page today, so I sent them an EMail.
I was impressed that they changed it - within minutes.
It now says "recipients".

That incredibly quick response really floored me.
Bravo Zulu to USNA Senior Web Developer, Meghan Sanders!
