My son was offered a 4 year AFROTC scholarship and then disqualified for having 2 abuterol treatments. He doesn't have asthma and doesn't need prescriptions or an inhaler. His waiver application is already in and his ROTC officer told him he would be contacted about getting a pulmonary test. We haven't heard anything from the review board yet. Is it ok to contact Dodmerb or is this breaking the chain of command? Thanks in advance!

The exam would be scheduled through DoDMETS (the dept of defense medical tracking system) which is operated by Concorde, Inc. Since timing may be critical, I wouldn't wait, as there seems to be an unexplained gap in communications. If it were me I would be calling both DoDMERB and Concorde to move it along. I vaguely recall speaking with people in Philadephia (i.e., Concorde), about my son's methacholine challenge test 4+ years ago.

Just a reminder, if your son is over 18, DoDMERB will have to permission from him to be able to speak with you about specific matters.

So it is ok to contact Dodmerb? They do give you a contact person and number but my son is nervous about jumping the chain. Thanks!

He has a perfectly valid reason to follow up with his contact person at DoDMERB. They should be able to give him a contact person at Concorde who should in turn be able to give him the name of your local doctor/hospital qualified to administer the test.
