DS received NOM's to USMA and USNA but not USAFA. Surprisingly he has not received TWE yet!
Are there any others out there still waiting on USAFA without a NOM and is it normal to still be hanging in at this point?

Just for info, my DD did not have a NOM and in May of 2014 received a offering to the AF Prep School. Which of course she took and now is a USAFA Cadet moving on to her junior year soon. Good luck with your DS. My DS is still waiting for this year also.

This is my second year applying, got a nom to USMA and USNA, not to USAFA since I live in such a competitive district (right by USAFA).. Got rejected to USNA already again. But am still waiting for USAFA as well. Best of luck to your son!

My DS is without a nomination but he got a recommendation from our MOC to the USAFA prep school. We are still waiting with USAFA and USNA hopefully will make it to the prep school.

The USNA is cleaning house!

Thank you!
Congratulations to your DD on making the journey!
Best of luck to your DS as well!

Sorry to hear about USNA, but hopefully good news is on the way!

The USNA has been sending out TWE all during the day up until 9 at night. Someone's Mom was posting at 5:30pm yesterday that they were going to enjoy his 18th Bday dinner and checked emails at 9 during his birthday celebration and he had received his TWE. Broke my heart for him and his family.

I have convinced myself that the USAFA updates at 5 am so I gird my loins to open the portal early. It's the only time I'm brave!

Shockingly, my DS who got a nom for all the other academies but USAFA, hasn't gotten the TWE yet either! We all expected it months ago, but his portal still reads 'Candidate'. There has been no further communication with him since February when his academy liaison told him to hang in there. I did read in another thread (possibly the USAFA 2021 Appointment thread), that the USAFA might just be busy with everyone else and will get around--or not--to telling people on the NWL that they have not received an appointment, usually by May.

Hm, interesting that we aren't the only ones... :p

That's exactly what I thought. With no NOM to USAFA DS would be the first to receive TWE.
They must like what they see in the remaining kids enough to hold off in hopes they can find them a NOM and a slot....
it is interesting to hear how many without NOMs are still in the game vs those with(assuming all are 3Q).

Ok I gotcha thanks. Yeah my DS is still CPR with USNA with a congressional nomination as well as with USMA. The waiting is so intense, driving us nuts too. Been CPR since October.

There are a FEW superintendent nominations that the academy can give out to individuals they REALLY WANT but didn't get a nomination through traditional means. But these are very few. It is not something I would count on.

Bottom line: You MUST, without exception, HAVE A NOMINATION, or you CAN'T receive an appointment. There is no waivering of this. There is no way around it. If you don't have a nomination, you can not and will not receive an appointment. Like I mentioned, there are a very few nominations that the superintendent of the academy can give out, but these are so few and extremely rare. The academy would really have to want you badly.

If you have nominations, and appointment offers to one of the other academies; and you DON'T HAVE an appointment to the air force academy; you should pretty much make up your mind to accept the other offers.

That's exactly why it surprises me that some kids are still in the game without a NOM. I would not expect my DS to get a Supt NOM, but he did apply for VP(again only 5 Available). He has accepted WP, and is very honored to be going to his first choice! He was open to attending either of the three academies I mentioned earlier, and was advised to apply to them. Its just interesting seeing how all of the admissions play out.
I hope all of those still waiting receive some good news soon, and truly admire all of the hard work and dedication so many have given, especially the repeat applicants!
I also hope that for those not receiving an appointment, that they continue to chase their dream of commissioning and serving our great country and to ultimately reach that goal!

Just because a person hasn't received a TWE (Declination letter) doesn't mean they are "Still in the game". Just means the academy hasn't gotten around yet to sending out the "Sorry try again next year" letter. If a person doesn't have a nomination, they can pretty much know that they better be looking at their other options. Because getting an appointment is pretty much "Slim-to-None".

Caveat: Of course; that's how I am. Depending on your application, it is possible that you could get an offer to the prep-school. But that depends.

DS has no nom to AF and is in the same boat. I agree with Christcorp and would add that it is likely that admissions is so busy rounding out their class that they don't have time or inclination to even address TWEs to those without a nomination. As harsh as it sounds, if you don't have a nomination, you don't have a ticket to the dance to begin with.
