Any CIET updates?

Trying to find the reasoning of how who was selected to go to CIET.
In talking to DS looks like engineering majors are exempt as an MSII but may go at some other time.
Non-contracted cadets were not selected to attend.
If going to CULP this year then you do not go to CIET.

If CIET is not mandatory based on the assumptions have listed here I certainly hope it counts on the OML for extra points.

My battalion made it seem like choosing who went was pretty cadre-dependent. My MSII buddies suggested they picked people that could use the OML points.

I'm going with the tried and true Dart Board Theory for this year.

From what I've read, it seems the CC wants this to be a mandatory training, this being the first year they are not requiring everyone to go. My guess is this is a trial period to see how it works and shake out the bugs, if all goes well (Can't believe I said that with a straight face) then I would imagine they will soon be taking all cadets.

Then again it could just go back to the Dart Board.

I think that Jcleppe is correct regarding the Dart Board Theory because nothing makes sense otherwise. MS1 DS Is going to CULP & is high up on the OML. It is my feeling that DS expressed a very strong interest in attending CIET this yr and the PMS made it happen

Someone mentioned a website for this-can you direct me, I could not locate it.

Also, It seems like CIET is taking the place of cadets who got to go to CFT. My other son went to CFT last summer and Id love to start shopping for specific care package items that my CFT attending son requested...(of course the most often requested items for CFT were food & toilet paper; they ran out of both)

Um, probably not... DS is in the top 1/3 on the OML, holds a leadership position in his unit and has a 3.5+ GPA and attend CULP last year.

Maybe the Army views this as a reward for doing well? Who knows???? I really like the DBT (dart board theory)

I don't think the DBT is a good idea. I don't think they should be allowed to use sharp objects.

There is a site called ciet.futurearmyofficers.com, but it is from last year's CIET, which is not the same CIET. It is basically called Summer Training, but has not been updated.
As far as those care package items, what other items were requested? Do you think they should arrive there with a supply of food?

I can only tell you from my Navy son' s experience with CFT. CFT is at west point and select AROTC cadets who want a summer training & select navy mishipman who are thinking of tracking marines go and join with the army cadets to train at Camp Buckner-this yr AROTC will not be sending anyone to CFT and they will go to CIET instead. In my opinion (and you an see from my limited experience that my opinion is worth very little) I would not send them with food. They are given a DETAILED packing list I would have them pack exactly what is on the list, no more and no less. Send the rest in care packages. From memory...things that I sent that came in handy included: socks, a wash line with clothes pin and hand wash soap all in a sandwich baggie, Socks, power bars (these are expensive so I like to stock pile them when they go on sale), energy jelly beans, socks, toilet paper, wet wipes. At CFT they ran out of food and only had MREs the last two or so wks and toilet paper was like gold.

Also just to be fun since my navy son was the only non army kid in his company I sent a huge case of Captain Crunch cereal (haha that went over well-son loved it).

There is a list of prohibited items... hair dryers, food, nonprescript meds, dietary supplements, etc. Other than that, there is not a "no more and no less" rule. I took 20 tan t's, 20 pairs of socks, and extra stuff I thought I would need to LDAC, and I'm glad I took what I did (they lost a LOT of laundry last year). If anyone would like a list of items I took that were not on the list that were really helpful, let me know. LDAC was different, yes, but many of the events are the same, just not graded. Some of these items made life much, much easier.

Cadre will inspect all items upon arrival. They will store things not authorized, and everyone will go on their merry way. There will be no negative reports or marks for bringing extra stuff, but do NOT forget anything on the packing list. That's where people will run into issues.

And even things on the prohibited list are cadre dependent. I brought allergy meds, dayquil, advil,, all in sealed packages and was allowed to keep them.
