Any experience with NROTC at SUNY Maritime or RPI?

I can comment on RPI. I am biased since I am a graduate of RPI an my DS visited last year as an excepted student. First RPI offers a room and board scholarship to all scholarship ROTC students, so all your school cost will be covered. The NROTC unit seemed to be very well run with nice facilities. The just upgraded their computer space that I think is used for navigation. The MIDNs we spoke to were excellent. But, that is typical of all MIDN at all units.
Academics at RPI are rigorous, and as you would expect tech/stem oriented. The entire student body has that tech feel. The engineering labs and facilities are top notch. If you want a "technical" institute for your college experience there are very few schools that are better academically.

Thanks for insight, did you play any varsity sports while there as well? Curious how the balance is for that with NROTC. Were the professors accessible to the students?

The school is relatively small so interacting with professors is easy. There are also plenty of research opportunities for undergraduates. All of my classes were taught by professors. Graduate student TAs lead labs and help sessions. The school is predominantly an undergraduate institution and that is its focus.
No sports for me. But being a smaller school coordination between NROTC and the sports coach should be easier than a larger university. But, you should ask both NROTC and the coach how they would coordinate conflicts. Academics ad NROTC is a time management challenge. Add athletes and the challenge increases. It can be done and should be done if the passion is there. Coordination will be critical.
