Any Good Bars in Pensacola?

The Sandshaker is the home of the original Bushwacker. Not my style, but my wife loves them.

Just West of Pensacola but worth the little drive. Go to FLORABAMA on the border, you won’t be disappointed. Man I can’t wait to get back there.

Do they still have the state line painted on the floor?

Dear god, I was there in 1980s as a young lad. Endless strawberry daiquiries, thinking they were a "girl's drink" and I wouldn't get so hammered. Big mistake. Or maybe not?

I saw David Allen Coe at Seville Quarter. It was great, and I wouldn't say that I even liked country music back then.

Try the Cubi Bar at the Naval Aviation Museum in Pensacola, FL. The Cubi Bar was legendary at the NAS Cubi Point Officer’s Club in Subic Bay, Philippines. When the Navy left the Philippines in the early 1990’s, someone had the vision and wherewithal to take all the plaques, models and paraphernalia and package them up for Pensacola. The bar is exactly as it looked in the Philippines. It’s historic, not politically correct and has a lot of nostalgia. Those that have been to WESTPAC would say it’s better than the bar seen in Top Gun – M. For a bit of trivia, “Cubi’ derived its name from CUB1, Construction Unit Battalion 1. They are known in the Navy as the Seabees and built the runway and a good part of the base in the 1950's.

I visited the Cubi Bar at the air museum when I was there in April. I enjoyed the guided tour of the air museum. It was lunch time and the Cubi Bar was crowded and understaffed. I did not have time to wait, so I headed over to the Navy Exchange and got a sandwich at Subway.

Stop by McGuires for a pretzel 🥨
If a pretzel is the big calling at McGuires, times have really changed !
McGuires was happening back in the '80s ! Spent many an evening there -- still have the mug that hung over the bar !

Favorite story was one of my Company mates getting married in Pcola. After reception at the O'Club, we all adjourned to McGuires and closed the place down. I (being fairly sober, and DW was driving) got volunteered to return the groom's (underage) sister to the BOQ , where the grooms family was staying. . Here it is, O dark thirty (closer to sunrise than midnight), walking sister to her room in the VIP quarters, when Dad (Did I mention, grooms dad was a 2 star ? ) meets us just outside the door, and thanks me for getting sister home safe. (Of course, with self preservation in mind, I made sure DW was with me when I walked sister to the door !)
