My DS was told by his RC at the USMA that he was disqualified due to the CFA. Although he completed all elements, he was told the video's showed weakness. Of course he Is extremely disappointed. His plan is to go to community college and re apply next year. He was accepted into the Corp of Cadets at another college, but is reluctant to go due to cost. We didn't apply for the ROTC scholarship. He said he didn't want to take the route of ROTC because he wanted to become an officer and work in Spec Ops and was told that ROTC isn't a good route for that option. I told him to look into the Minuteman scholarship as well. Can anyone with experience in this area offer any insight. I am new to this process and would appreciate any and all opinions.

JMB. Go to the university with the Corps of Cadets and the Army ROTC department not to the Community College.
If you want the real deal insight into the Minuteman Scholarships, call the ROO (AROTC recruiter) for the university or better yet, call the ROO at Va Tech Corps of Cadets. She is the bomb diggity.
Good luck.
Also, ask this same question on the ROTC section of Service Academy Forums--and I guarantee your understanding of the options will increase exponentially.

Also have him ask his RC if there is any opportunity for AOG scholarship to attend civil prep school. If he truly wants West Point and is going to re-apply this may be an option as well. They will work specifically on elements for CFA, as well as all other parts of application. DD got civil prep offer so we have just researched the heck out of all the schools and how re-applicant process works. PM me if you have any questions.

Teragram, I wondered what was going on at your house. Best wishes to your girl.
Thank you! We are still in limbo in our household. She is still 2nd on congressional slate for WP, no acceptance nor declination of appointment from boy who currently has offers from Navy and Army. She was offered AOG in meantime and told if he were to decline, they would offer direct appointment and give AOG to another candidate. As of right now she is willing to give up 4 year AROTC (makes my stomach hurt a little) to accept prep because WP is where she wants to be...willing to put in the year to get there! Still no appointments for USAFA from our district as far as we can tell. Has your son accepted USAFA or is he still waiting on another SA?

agree with DrMom. Don't go to the community college, do go to ROTC and figure out what can be done now due to timing. Some people have figured out how to apply and receive 3.5 scholarships (instead of 4 year scholarships). Have your DS think more broadly about ROTC options (hard to get the kids to do that, including my own).

The AOG route is not an option as you have to be 3Q'd and the CFA is one of those that you must be qualified on.

Agree with DRMom - ask this on the ROTC forum.
Best wishes to your DS.

Forgot about the 3Q bit :( Thank you for clearing that up! Would asking about USMAPS be worth it, if he is strong candidate otherwise or does he have to be lacking academically for that?

It does not matter how you commission as far as "Spec Ops" goes. It is about the person. Do not disregard ROTC. You can participate without a scholarship and it gives you another route to get nominated that is what I did and I will be attending in the fall.

I "walked on" to the AROTC at Canisius College in Buffalo. After 6 months they offered me a 3 year scholarship. Unfortunately I left school shortly after and ended up enlisting in the Navy. So it's not to late to look into ROTC.

You have to be academically DQ'd to be considered for USMAPS.
The OP didn't indicate if they were Academically qualified.
Usually, those chosen for USMAPS are soldiers, athletes and underrepresented minorities.
