Any local signs for AIM?

Is there anyone on the ground in Connecticut/New London who can comment on the current social/political climate there with respect to "opening up?" I read that Conn. has had a decrease in hospitalizations for 10 days in a row and they were opening up some state parks (while keeping others closed). We live in a southern state that is pushing the envelope in terms of opening up, but wondered what the environment in/around New London is like. I doubt CGA will take steps that are out of step with what is happening statewide. We are really hoping AIM takes place and I suppose I am just looking for signs of hope:)

At the moment AIM has not been cancelled (as of May 4). Until we are told otherwise, we are to plan for R-day to be June 29, 2020. The first session of AIM is June 5. Just stay the course until otherwise informed. If you are already set up with a session, you will receive an email if status changes. Good Luck! Semper Paratus.

The first AIM session is July 5, 2020 and not June 5, 2020. Nobody is as of yet "set up with a session" for AIM as you cannot even enroll/choose a session (if you were accepted of course) until May 18, 2020.

No knowledge on anything at USCGA or in Connecticut. However, my active duty AF spouse was scheduled to attend training in Alabama in late June. It’s a high priority class that is mandatory for certain positions. We just found out yesterday that it will be virtual instruction only. Just another data point to consider. If these kinds of training events aren’t happening, I have low expectations for things like AIM.

As the parent of an AIM appoint and a USCGA grad, I have come to embrace the saying, "Semper Gumby". Lets get some positive vibes on this thread and hope that AIM will occur. Go Bears Crew!

Is the cancellation of RISE a bad sign for AIM happening? Or are they different enough that one shouldn't draw any conclusions?

Something to keep in mind is that the services have a "Stop Movement" order in place till June 30th I believe. Probably not much is going to happen till either that memo is revised or the date passes without extension. Although CG being in DHS may help, just keep an open mind, positive thoughts, and hopefully things will fall into place:)

I would draw no conclusions. Even as a faculty member, we are at least a week a way from knowing the summer options. Also, AIM is a major recruiting event, so I would not rule out an online option too. Please note, I am not on the committee, so I am not providing inside information.

It has just been announced that AIM has also been cancelled this year.

Where did you hear that AIM has been cancelled? My son has not received any notification that it is cancelled and there is nothing on the website as of a few minutes ago.

I'm not sure where @Freda'sMom acquired the information, but all Academy Admissions Partners were just notified via email that in-person AIM has been cancelled due to COVID-19. That being said, the email also states that Admissions is working to notify all attendees today in an appropriate manner. I don't consider this forum to be the appropriate manner for AIM appointees to be notified as Admissions will no doubt include additional information in their notification mechanism but there it is.

For all those accepted to AIM, I wouldn't be surprised if you received an email of some kind in the next few hours. Please know that USCGA did not make this decision lightly, and I would guess that this has something to do with the mission essential need to get the Class of 2024 onboard and in an effective, safe training environment with any potential risks mitigated. A quick story - I was diagnosed with H1N1 during my first swab summer, it was later reported that H1N1 arrived when the Aimsters did. Swabs are typically running around with lower immune systems due to stress, fatigue, and exposure to new people from all over the world. I know it is disappointing but try not to let yourself be too discouraged, I'm sure Admissions will coordinate an alternative event.

That being said, my heart goes out to all of you, because I still remember the excitement I felt when I was accepted to AIM in 2008. I am so sorry.

DD is taking her AP Calc test right now. Coming out from that to this news is going to severely bum her out. Just about everything is gone from this summer at this point, so here's hoping fall sports open on time.

I wouldn't count on that at all.

All Aimsters should have received an email about the canceling of AIM this summer. It gives them info on a question and answer period happening this Monday. It also talks about having AIM now be a virtual event.

I know this is crushing for the Aimsters but canceling was not taken lightly. The health of all was taken into consideration. The virtual event they are working on will be great..

I mean technically its going virtual, so not exactly cancelled. Disappointing, but not all together unexpected.

Interesting choice of time and date for the “virtual town hall” considering the AP testing that will be going on.

My daughter noticed that too. Maybe we should pass that on to them.

It isn’t a bad idea - it may be that Admissions overlooked this schedule as it’s not something they usually need to be concerned with. I highly doubt the date for the town hall was purposefully selected to interfere with AP testing.
