Any NROTC ASR recipients?

Hello,

I am supposed to receive an ASR (Alternative Scholarship Reservation) through NJROTC in the upcoming weeks. For those of you who have never heard of it, an ASR is provided through NJROTC where the Area Manager in your specific region (I am in Area 11 which covers Southern California and Arizona) chooses a certain number of cadets to receive an ASR. I already applied for the national scholarship, but no decision has been made on my package. Anyways, my Area Manager told my SNSI (Senior Naval Science Instructor) that I would be definitely getting the ASR within a couple of hours of reviewing my application. However, I have not received any paperwork from Pensacola regarding the scholarship. Does anyone know about the ASR and know when I might receive notice? My SNSI said I would most likely get notice at the end of January but that he wasn't really sure.

Thanks!

So I was not awarded the ASR, but the ISR (immediate scholarship reservation), so take this with a grain of salt. I got the scholarship Nov 3, and only got the snail mail letter yesterday. I did get an email in mid-December, which was an abridged version of the paper letter. I know that the ISR trumps the national scholarship, in that I was not boarded or competing for a national scholarship. Not sure about ASR, but if it is like the ISR, you likely won't mess around with the national scholarship, since you have (or will have) the ASR scholarship.

I as well received the ISR. My understanding is that your packet still has to go before the board but it just gets a quick look over and then is accepted.

That may be true, although I can't verify. My impression was that the officer I interviewed with, the CO of the recruiting office, had the ultimate authority to select the awardees in his district, and that the package was sent to Florida for the school selection to be determined.

Well, it actually makes sense that it's going to get reviewed by the board and is somewhat conditional. For example, something comes up at the DoDMERB physical which precludes you from serving, etc. Going through the board is mostly a formality but it needs to be done to get the ball rolling on the rest of the application process, such as school selection. At least that's my understanding.
