Navy ROD Reg 3-5, C, 2 - states "Classes taken via distance learning (e.g., online, videotape) are not acceptable for fulfilling the NROTC academic program, unless the host university accepts the course for transcript credit with a letter grade. In no case shall NROTC units accept distance learning for calculus, physics, or Naval Science classes ".

Just curious if with the covid pandemic impacts yielding that 1. much of the Spring 2020 learning was via distance learning, and 2. most summer university learning at the moment is via distance learning only, has anyone been successful at getting approval to take calc or physics via distance learning at their own school for a letter grade, remotely, or a host or cross-town NROTC school, this summer? (It also says must be taken at one of those). Or how about for the spring or fall, if your school is not open for in-person learning? Any official word if Navy is addressing the distance learning limitation through all of this?

Thanks.

I am currently distance learning and my school is counting all of the credits that I am currently taking online. My unit is also accepting my Calculus II credit seeing as it will appear on my transcript. Hopefully this clarifies your question a bit. Please feel free to ask for more information.

This is what DS university communicated:
NSTC has given temporary permission to take Calculus and Physics Online this summer with stips:

1. The University must not offer in person.
2. The remote class must be identical to the classroom version regarding content.
3. The remote class must be thru the Host University.

Hope this helps.
