I'm 28 and in sophomore year. I've been thinking to join AFROTC but as you can see... I'm not qualified for scholarships because of my age. However, I heard that there are some other ways to get scholarships but that's all I heard. It can be some other type of scholarship but I want to check it for sure.
If you know any information or somewhat similar to that, please share it with me. I really need some help!
I would recommend the following:
1. There are books on amazon that are a list of available external scholarships. If can can find a brick and mortar book store, peruse a few of these and see if the details would help you. The one I bought in my DS's senior year was about $20.00
2. Use the internet to search for merit scholarships. Plenty of sources available.
3. File a FAFSA each year and state grant application to see if you qualify for any financial aid.
4. Speak with your university about merit scholarship or grant opportunities.
5. (Don't laugh). But I would get in touch with your alma mater HS guidance department and ask if they have a list of scholarships/ websites they give to students, and ask for those links/ lists.
6. Speak with the unit's recruiting officer to ask if, while you won't get scholarships, could/ does the university offer any additional merit support to ROTC students. Some do.
7. Speak with an Air Force recruiter about enlistment options and options to pay for school. State your desire to serve ultimately as an officer and walk through the options with her or him.
8. To lower the cost of college, I would explore whether your college will give you life experience credit.
Doing the above steps should be a good start to get you on your way to exploring what options exist. Good luck and thank you for your willingness to serve.
