Any Prior-Enlisted Hopefuls?

I have a few prior friends out at the P school now and they were saying that there is talk about the priors arriving earlier and we get to help run the basic. Can you imagine if we all get appointed to the USAFA we'll have gone through 3 basics, not looking forward to that. But it will all be worth it in the long run, why are most of you guys trying to commission?

Back in January, I heard a rumor that priors were going to help run basic for the people directly out of high school. I wonder if that has any merit. If it is true, I'm going to be having a hard time to get leave approved. They are already mad about me planning on taking leave for 2 days of a UCI. I just think this one TSgt hates me. xD

I am actually looking forward to the additional time at basic. I know I'm crazy, but it got me in shape, and I got to relax. Why did I get to relax? I didn't have to think about anything, I just had to do. xD No worries in the world, except getting those hospital corners right. xD

Damn you're taking leave for that long? I was going to try and bail out a little after the uci for a few weeks.

They would never let me leave during it/before it though.

And if you guys will remember: in my opinion, the worst part about basic training was living with 60 other dudes all in one big room. Having a single or two roommates will make it 100 times less stressful. I didn't mind basic either. :thumb:

I wouldn't be surprised if they make priors run they're little basic. After all, we have gone through the real thing. I think it'll be a breeze not knowing we are doing EVERYTHING WRONG!!! In that aspect it'll be awesome. On the flip side, we will most likely have an 18 year old cadet yelling at us, telling us that we're not fit for HIS Air Force. But, I was always told to shut up in color lol. Do we got any maintainers up in here? Or ops priors?

I plan on zeroing out my leave and taking RAP on top of that. =P Granted, I won't have any leave left for those 5 weeks between the prep school and BCT, but I'll be able to enjoy the rest of my summer. xD

I am a 4N051. Medical Technician (EMT). I want to go into medical but if given the opportunity to fly...why not.

Johnd,

I was actually attending a seminar with the Navigator's ministry in Co Spr. that conveniently took place at the same exact time as the LEAD Diversity site visit, so I just set up a day to shadow a cadet I know from high school and a doolie there on the LEAD program.

Yea the basics shouldn't be bad, I know its just going to be annoying taking orders from an 18-20 year old cadet and hearing about "the real AF."

JVE that's cool your an EMT, I did that before I enlisted. There is actually a cadet EMT volunteer group at USAFA which might be worth looking into.

Walsh, did the out-processing paperwork mention anything about allowing us POVs at the P school? I had heard RUMINT (intel joke haha) that they may allow us to bring vehicles this year. Have fun in your UCI.

My facebook is www.facebook.com/dlandry914 hopefully we'll all be meeting each other soon in July.

Does anyone have interest in getting involved in the cadet candidate chain of command?

well the juniors and seniors will be running your basic for both the p and once you get to the hill, and yes, they will yell at you about stupid things like where your ironing board goes during a SAMI because "it matters in the real Air Force"... but help the high school direct entries. you are sort of put in a leadership spot and they all need your help because they are clueless

Anyone know if the year spent at the P counts as a year spent on duty for priors?

Hi guys,
I know this is little late in the posting but...

I applied for both the USAFA and AFROTC, and received neither a nomination or a scholarship for AFROTC. I have been thinking about what to do recently for my career path; whether to enlist in the Air Force and try for the Academy again (via the LEAD program) - or - go to college (Norwich University, participating in AFROTC) and try for USAFA again during my freshman college year.

Just wondering on your opinions on this matter

Also, can you only apply for the LEAD program during anytime when you are enlisted (disregarding basics and job training)?

Also (also) what ASVAB AFQT score did you have to be accepted or apply for the LEAD program? (I scored a 94 on the AFQT, 27 on the ACT, and a 1840 on the SAT)
Edit: I am using my mother's account, my brother is also in the class of 2013 at USAFA. My name is Forrest

As soon as you grad from BMT you can start your application... If you can get the commander at your tech school to back you up.

Your ASVAB score is not taken into consideration.

From what I've heard they never fill all of the Prior slots for the Academy/Prep School due to a lack of qualified applicants... but enlisting just to gain an appointment is still a risky game to play. You need commander approval to be considered, so you are banking on your commander being cool and letting you go.

Tough call

If your ultimate goal is to goto the USAFA I would definitely recommend going to college and applying after that. Enlisted route is not a 100% good way to do it.

I am lucky enough to have good supervisors/commander that knows me and think i would do well at the Academy. Also, I've been in for 2 years. It won't be an imidiate thing. You COULD get in during tech school. We actually had a guy at the LEAD DVP with us that was in tech school that got in. BUT the chances of getting your commander in tech school to sign off on it are slim. I know when i was in tech school i never even spoke with my commander once.
