...that did NOT also apply to the Air Force Academy? As best I can determine everybody who has received their AFROTC scholarship during the last few days are also applying to the AFA. Is this round of notifications just for that group or is there somebody who is an exception?

AFROTC

My son received an AFROTC offer and did not apply to the academy.

That is great news Peck! When did he get his award letter?

94 views and only one (possibly) recent AFROTC scholarship recipient that did not also apply to the Air Force Academy? Wonder if the end of November / beginning of December AFROTC board only reviewed those dual AFA / AFROTC applicants or if the only ones chosen were also AFA applicants? Perhaps those recent scholarship winners were actually chosen from a different board or selection process and we haven't seen the most recent results of the latest board? It's getting cold hanging out here by the mailbox......any opinions?

Son just received Type 1 AFROTC scholarship for foreign languages to any school. If he goes this route he'll either study Chinese or Russian.

AROTC scholarship info just came today in the mail...
Good Day.

Congrats singaporemom to you and your son! :thumb:
Did your son also apply to the Air Force Academy?

He did apply to USAFA but had to withdraw since he broke his collarbone.

Sorry to hear about your son's injury. But congrats on the AFROTC scholarship!!!

Thanks.. he's almost recovered now. broke it during varsity football practice a week before taking the CFA. (same time of year his older brother broke his ankle....a week before CFA also)

But, USNA has a later submit date for CFA, so he switched to USNA and recieved a nom a couple of weeks ago. The way things are going, he'll have a bunch of options. He figured just one scholarship to one school would come through and he wouldn't have to make a decision!!

I just posted on another thread that we both have a lot to be thankful for this holiday.:thumb:

Maybe I originally asked the wrong question.

Is anyone still waiting for a AFROTC scholarship that did not also apply to the Air Force Academy? Are we all alone?

We are still waiting. My son started out applying to the navel academy then quickly decided that was not what he wanted out of his college experience, so is going the AFrotc and nrotc route. He didn't get everything in until mid November, but I think that was enough time to make the December board. His status has not changed.

^^^
Great! Thanks for the reply. Just checked the AFROTC scholarship site and it has changed to the following:

"Your application met the board and you were not selected for a scholarship. However, based on your rank on the board, your application will be meeting the next board. You will be receiving written confirmation via mail within the next few weeks."

Hopefully anybody else that is waiting will have better luck. Happy Holidays!

Waiting again

My daughter also applied for an AFROTC scholarship but our wait has been extended until next month as her status change to " Your application met the board and you were not selected for a scholarship. However, based on your rank on the board, your application will be meeting the next board. You will be receiving written confirmation via mail within the next few weeks.". A little bit of a bummer right before Christmas but aleast there is still hope. Good luck to those still waiting to hear.

Ah ok, my son's says the same thing now. A bit vague...not sure what they mean by 'rank' especially as it seems we all have the same message. Do they give out the Tier 1 scholarships first then go down the line?

No. They give out all Types at each board. Some people have reported getting both 1 & 7 types last weekend. The message is just suppose to make us feel better about our rejection and hopes for the future boards.

Here is what I'd like to see if my daughter is not selected by the next AFROTC board:

"Your application met the board and you were not selected for a scholarship. However, based on your rank on the board, we wonder how the hell you managed to make it past the qualification stage. Not only will your application will not be meeting the next board, but we are currently investigating how it got in front of the last two. Please do NOT bother trying to enlist in the Air Force. We know who you are. You will be receiving written confirmation via mail within the next few weeks."

do I detect a tad bit of sarcasm.......????

FYI UPDATE: Status changed today to say:
•Congratulations! You were awarded a scholarship. You will be receiving written confirmation via mail within the next few weeks. If you have questions please notify HQ AFROTC/RRUC.

(Letter came yesterday)

He received Type 1. Offer 4 yr, Chinese
But letter stated any foreign language on approved list.

Emailed AFROTC for clarification that he could choose any foreign laguage from list if he changed his mind about Chinese. They said yes, any language from list. But he would be required to read, write, and speak that language after 4 yrs. He already speaks Chinese, so I figured, No Problem. He's now thinking Russian or Serbo-Croatian. Ya, why make it easy?

He chose either Math or Chinese as possible majors, they chose Chinese for him. Unfortunately he applied as a Math major everywhere to go along with his AROTC and NROTC applications.
Now must throw a few applications out there for Language.

I've been checking the AFROTC website every day since Dec 24th but it still says "Your Air Force ROTC Scholarship interview has been received and processed. Your record will meet the next available selection board. You can check back here to find the results of the board. We will mail you a letter notifying whether or not you have been offered a scholarship," and I haven't received anything in the mail (I'm hoping to get something today).

My interview was on Dec 2nd - do you think that was in time for the first board date (Dec 7-11).

I'm thinking of emailing them to check on it tomorrow after the mail comes and the second update time on the website passes (3PM CST).

My guess is that your package was not completed in time for the past board. It seems that people who have all their paperwork complete, but have not been reviewed yet by a board have the same message that you have on your scholarship status page.

You can certainly email them if you choose, but I can tell you in my daughter's case we did not receive anything in the mail to confirm her package was complete, and we have not recieved anything in the mail that she was passed over. All our information is from the scholarship status site.

Good Luck!
