Anyone from new jersey waiting for nominations?

No need for nominations next year if you choose NAPS this year...right?
Noooooo

Please don't make this mistake. Those at NAPS (and USMAPS) are told to seek a Congressional nomination.
There just are not enough nominations to be "found" if no one at NAPS sought a Congressional Nom.

The Nominations they "find" are Sec Navy nominations from reserve enlisted personnel of which only 85 are available.

NavIss58 - if your MOC knew you had a NAPS appointment then there was no need for him to nominate you this year.
You should still apply for a nomination next year. Kids who go through the same MOC the following year often find they only need to "update" their applications and don't need to start over.
Also many MOC's will provide a phone interview for those in Prep programs.

I don't think I realized this but I see that what you are saying is true.

So if I as a NAPSter get a competetive nom from my MOC, what then? Do I then compete for an Apppointment against the 9 others on my slate who are (most likely) more highly qualified (Class Rank/GPA/SAT/ACT/ECs) than myself? It doesn't seem right that I would get the Appointment over others that have higher "whole person scores" than I do; but on the other hand, I as a NAPster have been practically guaranteed an Appointment to USNA as long as I perform up to standards while I am in NAPS, right?

So how do they do it? Do they give the NAPSters a score bump that virtually guarantees them to be higher than the others on their slate?

First of all - don't assume that a NAPSter has a lower WCS than any other candidates. The WCS encorporates more than GPA/SAT. Lots of other things go into the score including their tenure at NAPS.

Those from NAPS with a MOC nomination will compete against the others on the slate for an appointment. IF they are not #1 - it's okay they can be appointed as a Qualifed Alternate. There are appointments available for those who are qualifed alternates, candidate with a nomination but don't rank #1 on the slate.

I think it's a bad assumption that a NAPSter would be lower than all of the candidates on the slate....but not a bad assumption that the NAPSter would be lower than the top candidate....or ever the top two or three....especially in a competetive area.

Subdude and Mom, please let me clarify as I see I wasn't clear. I think we can all agree that a candidate must have a decent WCS and be rather competitive in the candidate pool to make the cut for selection to NAPS (one could assume that the candidate is, by this selection, medically qualified and physically qualified at the least, but requires some academic strengthening, and that the service academy has given the nod, agreed?).

After selection to NAPS, and assuming the graduation requirements are met from there, by a nomination "found" I mean that after resubmitting a nomination package to the MOC's, that the Academy works with the nomination 'field', if you will, whether the local MOC or others, to seek and secure a nomination for the candidate to the Academy, also assuming they really want to place the candidate in the Academy. I'm sure there's another filter in place to sift out a candidate that might not 'fit in' for any reason.

As I am confident that the Academies work with the MOC's to place appointed candidates that the Academy really wants, because they can. It's written all over the SAF that even with qualified candidates "some get an appointment and other don't, for reasons that can never be known".

And Mom, it may be true that the MOC may be aware of the NAPS selection. It wasn't explicit, but implied by the timing shortly after the NAPS selection letter. I got that, but can't say with any certainty.

My daughter received her nomination from NJ 7th District Rep. Leonard Lance. He called her yesterday evening to congratulate her on her appointment to USNA.
