Anyone Having Problems with New AROTC Application?

My DS has been having problems with the newly formatted online application for the AROTC scholarship. For instance, there are several fields that require the use of a drop-down list (i.e. selecting the colleges they are interested in). However, it won't save the information he has selected and keeps giving him error messages stating he hasn't completed the field when, in fact, he has. I didn't know if I should have him go ahead and email CC about the issue, or if they will usually correct any issues with their application portal?

At first thought - try a different web browser and see if that issue persists.

I know with the old portal, it only worked with certain browsers.

Unfortunately most of us here wont know much since the 2018 pool is the first group to use the new system. You are pioneering the way!

+1 to Thompson. Try Internet Explorer or Firefox. Also report it. They can't fix it if they don't know it's broken and if it is a problem that is unique to the browser you are using they can probably correct it for others, but don't necessarily know about it.

Just to echo what others have said, definitely give Internet Explorer a try. I'll venture to guess Chrome or FF is giving you issues?

I'll go ahead and have DS contact the administrators. We are already using Internet Explorer.

Hmm - I was hoping using IE would solve the problem; with the old portal, it was not compatible with FF, but was compatible with IE.

Please let us know what you find out!

One last thing you may be able to try, is clicking the "compatibility view" icon to the right of the address in IE. It's the icon that looks like a broken piece of paper.

Not sure if that will work, but it's worth a shot because the site may be coded for an older version of IE.

It's been working fine for me on Internet Explorer. Is trying it on a different computer an option?

Which version are you using? This may be a further indicator that the "compatibility mode" mentioned above might work.

That fixed it! However, just in case anyone else has this issue, I just want to state that an icon for "compatibility view" wasn't showing on our IE screen (BTW - we are using IE10). DS had to go thru Tools/Compatibility View to get it set up properly.

DS stated that everything seems to be working fine now.

Also, Strength & Honor, we tried it on both our laptop & desktop computers, and it was giving us the same problem no matter what. So, I'm thinking it had to do with the version of IE we are using.

Thanks so much for the help!:thumb:

Excellent, glad it worked out. Thanks for posting where it's located in the menu bar as well.

Another question

Here's something else DS is running into and I don't know if anyone knows of a solution. One of the schools he is applying to is a cross-town unit. The primary school shows up as one of the school selections on the drop-down menu, but DS doesn't want to apply to the primary school. However, the cross-town school doesn't show up as a college selection at all.

Does anyone have any ideas about what may be going on?

....Potentially misleading response that applied to NROTC has been deleted....
Oops!

The way I read this is that you're selecting the unit you want to join and not the actual college.

That makes sense. But do you think it's safe to assume (I know that's a dangerous word) that the same would apply to the AROTC application?

Yeah, I was just about to post that my reply was for NROTC which for some reason I thought your son was applying for but I also just noticed this is an AROTC application. I wouldn't venture to guess if it also applies to AROTC but if they have a separate checklist document it may also explain it in there, as NROTC did. Worth a look.

This is probably a question for the PMS/ROO.

It may be a question of "I accept students from a list of campuses, but hold all my classes at the host school, so you apply to the host school". It may be a typo. It may be that there are no scholarships allocated to that high-cost private from this unit.

I would thing that the PMS/ROO would know

The paper application seems to require that the applicant provide a 6 digit code which identified the specific college as opposed to the unit... so my guess is it works differently from NROTC in that sense. I'm going to delete my earlier response (if I still can) to avoid confusing anyone (else).

The host most likely doesn't allocate any of their national scholarships to the partner school. I think last year they scrubbed out the schools that don't get allocations. Doesn't mean you can't attend that school, participate in ROTC, and compete for campus based scholarships. Just means you won't get an offer to that school from the national process. I do that with one of my four schools. final answer will come from the PMS/ROO though.

Bummer. I guess I didn't realize that the host school had control over those things. I assumed (there's that word again) that any school listed on the Army ROTC website offered national scholarships. I'll have DS contact the partner school to verify, though. Thanks for the input!
