Anyone hear for AROTC?

Alright, thanks for the answers. On my status page it still says:

"You have been selected for an interview."

I have already completed that interview, and it is received. Does that just stay there for eternity?

Your status page will remain like that until you are offered a scholarship. If you are never offered a scholarship you will receive a letter sometime around may informing you.

How kind of them... haha. Well, I suppose there is nothing left but to wait. Oh boy. Either way, if the thread is to be believed, we'll all know by Friday.

Just out of curiosity, if you aren't selected, is it possible to reapply for next year? Or would that be pointless?

It varies. Last board it was a matter of days. Most of the offers from the JAN board are still not viewable on the portal.

Maritst College: Do mean "Not viewable on YOUR side of the portal"? or the applicants side of the portal? Are there some applicants that received offers but their status portal has remained unchanged??

Just trying to get clarification.

Could a letter go out from CC on Friday, be received on Tuesday and my DS' status on the website STILL (Tuesday) not show anything about being awarded a scholarship?

Thank you, I am greatful for all of the help offered here.

My son received a call from his 3rd choice school indicating he had been awarded a full scholarship. He said letters would go out on Friday. Nothing on the portal that we can see has been changed. We are still waiting to hear from his 1st choice school, hoping that call will come before the letter.

What are the odds that he was only given his 3rd choice school? Oh the waiting game!

Seems like every board the process changes. I read back to the thread from October boards and status' were being updated with Scholarships and schools many days before letters were to be mailed. Same day as ClarksArmy could see things happening, candidates were chiming that their status showed scholarships - Yeah.... This lasted for a few days.

Some differences the previous boards too.

Now, on this board, some saw a little "tweak" with the "Medical: Not Received" to "Medical: Received". That was 2 days ago and ROO's & PMS blogged that their side of the portal shows scholarship awards but nothing for the applicants to see on their status weblink.

Such a mystery. Keeps us all guessing...... I just hope things on the website are updated on Friday.

There is always a chance that he was awarded a scholarship to more then one school. It's hard to say for this second board, a lot of applicants from last years second board received the scholarship to just one school.

Looks like your son got lucky having a ROO from the school bend the rules and make contact before the official notice came out. Remember, nothing is final until the letter arrives.

Congratulations to your son, it seems you are the first one here to announce a scholarship award.

If you are not selected for a scholarship this year there is no process in place to apply again next year.

What happens is this, you register for all the AROTC MS classes for next fall. Contact the battalion and let them know your coming, not required but a very good idea. Find out if they have an orientation before school starts and then make sure you are there. Be ready to take your first APFT, I mean be really ready to get a good score. Do well on your APFT. Many battalions have Campus Based Scholarships they can give, do your best, be involved, have good grades by mid terms and you will stand a chance of receiving one of these scholarships.

Every battalion is different when it comes to campus scholarships. My son's battalion gave out one 4yr, a 3.5yr and three 3yr campus scholarships this year.

Come ready to perform and your chances will be better.

I can sure relate.

I have had two sons go through this process, one in 2007/2008 and one in 2010/2011. Even the process between the two of them was completly different and the process today is different then it was with my second son.

Back in 2007/2008 the scholarships were awarded by the battalions listed on the application, not the national system they use now.

Cadet Command has made many changes over the last few years, even more since they moved to Ft. Knox. Something your son will get used to, through school and his time in the Military. I have to laugh sometimes when my older son calls me and grips about the big changes that just happened, only to get a call a couple weeks later saying they changed them back. Aaaw, life in the Military.

Nerve wracking... Just sitting here waiting to hear something like everyone else!! DS is cool as a cucumber  Me, not so much!! Looks like they are waiting till the letters are sent?!

DS was re-board from the first round. If he is re-boarded again, not sure my nerves can take it. We went to visit his #1 school over Winter Break, met with the ROO, he seemed optimistic about his scholarship chances. Even said he would recommend him for a scholarship or was it, put him up for a scholarship recommendation. Not quite sure what that meant, since I thought schools did not have a say in who is offered a scholarship (with the exception of campus-based ones). Oh, well... I guess time will only tell

In a yr or two from now when he is applying for summer training, you will be wishing for these days.

We all understand the stress, but just realize this is only the 1st hurdle, and if he doesn't get it, he is still in the race at the same starting point as his peers. Scholarships are gravy, they are not a factor at college regarding how he will rank in the unit.

The later hurdles are the ones that become harder to overcome if you trip. This is the fun time. Open a bottle of wine, pour a scotch, crochet, landscape, whatever it takes to reduce your stress. Personally I would go with the latter because ROTC is 4 yrs, and a lot more hurdles...you might never stop opening the bottle of wine.

Plus, once they commission it is a whole new level of stress.

Good luck. Just remember when it is released you will see non-stop posting on this thread or a new thread for a few days.

It truly will light up like a xmas tree.

Take deep breaths and work on plan B and the FAFSA. I found, when going through this, once a plan B was in place that the stress diminished greatly. By then it was just a matter of finding out if it was plan A or plan B. Of course plan B took him to #1 choice school so maybe that was part of it. YMMV.

And +1 to Pima. You will never run out of things to worry about once they are in ROTC with or without a scholarship, including will they do something totally stupid this weekend and get tossed from the program?

I think the amount of dis-enrollment threads that are currently active on this site should illustrate that fear.

Kids are being cut, for weight, for cgpa, for stupid college actions. A PSU mid got walking papers for the riot over Sandusky.

We don't go with them to college, we can't know if they will attend the 8 am class, or study. All we get as parents, is the Mom/Dad phone call of "I think there might be a problem". Leaving with us behind the 8 ball and trying to get them back in front of it again.

That is why once you get that 1st phone call, real reality sinks in and now it is always on your mind when the phone rings. You will wish for those days waiting to hear if they got a scholarship and not playing through your mind WHAT IF they lose it now...where will we get the money because he only went since ROTC picked up 1/2 of the tab and he has 2 more yrs?

HAH! Happened to me just yesterday. The kid called asking his mom to transfer some of his money from one account he can't access to one he can. (Why my beloved set things up this way I'll never understand... time he started managing money on his own... but that's another story). Of course I couldn't hear the conversation other than to be able to tell it was DS on the other end. So my first question was - What happened? What's wrong?

And I expect many parents would be fortunate to get a call along the lines of "I think there may be a problem". I expect I wouldn't get a call until it was too late. Some of these kids are too damned independent!

I am pretty sure I would not hear anything until after the fact. Son has us on a need to know basis and we don't need to know much.

kinnem,

LMAO! DS would call me 1st with the bad juju. He called Bullet with the good news 1st.

Seriously, that was/is our life.

No biggie to me because that is my special bond with him. Any call is a good call when it comes to parent/child relationship.

I would love if Bullet would call me after DS calls him so I am not like Pavlov's dog...fear. However, that means Bullet has to be trained to call :shake:

It's interesting with the January boards coming out that DSS has heard from a couple of the schools on his list, including the ROO for one of his schools saying his application looks good and asking if he's still interested in that school. He also got a more generic email from one of the military instructors from another school. Mere coincidence? Time will tell, I guess. I would imagine the ROO at least has info on his side of the "wall" for the Jan boards. Anybody else suddenly hearing from ROTC at your listed schools in the last couple of days?

No one has initiated contact but My DS did reach out to his 1st choice school and got a reply. "The scholarship board is complete and letters are being sent out tomorrow. You should hear something early next week."

The SHOULD part of the email is promising... And with the tweak on his status page he is hopeful.

Remember, they don't send you anything if you are passed over on this board. If you SHOULD hear something, it would only be positive.

And the nerves get worse, I was talking to the SAI at my JROTC program who had been in contact with the PMS at the school i chose as my first choice. He told me that "Even if I didn't get selected by the board, I should remain positive."

This, while positive on the surface, worries me.
