Still no news in my son's unit. Just wondering if anyone else had heard anything yet.

My son advised that everything is on (as of 2 weeks ago).

He had a briefing from a Rear Admiral in the Training Command who told them that there was never any doubt about rising sophomores ("intro" cruise) and rising seniors but rising juniors were on the bubble. This cruise was seen as least vital to the mission.

However, as of 2 weeks ago, he was advised all is on.

Given the ebb and flow of the budget/ sequester situation I reserve the right to have bad scuttlebutt.

Hey wait a minute. I already paid off some bets based on that scuttlebutt. You can't reserve the right to bad scuttlebutt now!
I do know anyone going to Mt. Warfare at least has dates. Marine Options doing something else are still waiting for dates (they should be few). I have no idea on Navy options.

DS told me yesterday that they were told they will have summer cruise. He did say they were not certain if everyone would go. They were also told there would be no option to select a coast for CORTRAMID - MIDNs wold be sent to the coast closest to home.

Thanks - my son was last told at least a month ago that seniors were for sure but the other two might be limited in either numbers or overall but they've gotten no updates since then so I thought I'd ask. I'll let everyone know once we hear anything. He said all he was allowed to "request" (as a rising junior) was "Surface ship" vs. "Sub". We'll see!

MY DD's Navy Nurse cruise was cancelled/not offered but she was offered Cortramid. She declined so she could 10 hours in summer school. (She is 4c)

Just a quick update - they had a meeting at my son's school yesterday and were told cruises were still on. But no actuall assignments yet. They were also told that most likely travel would be restricted to the nearest port so they expected that they'd all be going to Norfolk, despite anything they'd requested.

Contramid 2013 San Diego NROTC Marine option

My DS who is on an NROTC Marine option scholarship at USC says he is leaving for Contramid May 23 in San Diego. He is almost done Freshman year, how fast it flew by. Hope this helps. Semper Fi Marine EOD wife

So...anyone heard anything definite yet? After telling them two weeks ago (when I last posted) that they should know for sure within a week, my son still knows nothing. Kind of hard to pin down summer living/internships/research/travel when he has no idea if/when he'll be on a cruise somewhere. A bit frustrating with the end of the semester only a couple weeks away! He asked again yesterday and was told they'd know "soon".

No news here yet either although I'm hoping to hear something when I speak to DS tonight, based on nothing at all. I'm not too worried about it. They are already in finals but can always notify them via email. He'll be at school anyway so hopefully he can pick up anything he needs to bring with him. We are fortunate in that we already know, by definition, that any cruise he has will not conflict with his summer job, as he had to switch out of Mt. Warfare due to his summer job at the college.

DS informed yesterday that he is going to San Diego May 23. Only 3 from his battalion going to West, all others going to East. A list was sent out to all MIDNs showing assignments. :thumb:

Waiting to hear on a SEAL cruise here...beginning Finals Week, so it would be nice to know SOON so summer job plans could be hammered out.

Yay! SEAL cruise came through! Now we are just waiting to hear what phase...

Woo! My son FINALLY found out today that he got his first choice - 2 weeks on a Fast Attack Sub out of Pearl Harbor (actually 4 days in the port and 9 days out) so is excited to see life on a "real" sub!

Congrats to those who have been notified about summer cruise! My son (rising junior) and most of his class are still waiting to hear. These MIDN's have other opportunities this summer for internships/co-ops/family vacations etc..but are really unable to make any plans. I understand this is a unique situation with the sequester but still very frustrating....

Amphib Group Cruise

DS, a rising junior Marine Option, would normally be going to Mt. Warfare school this summer. Because he had a job as a freshman orientation leader at his college which his unit really wanted him to do, he elected to try to get a cruise with an amphib group this summer. He just heard he will be boarding the USS Ashland LSD 48 in Norfolk June 24... arriving San Diego July 13. We assume this involves traversing the Panama Canal. Woohoo! Join the Navy, see the world! Don't know who is more excited, him or me!!! A couple rising senior Navy Options from his unit will also be aboard.

So glad he finally heard :thumb:

DS in 3rd week of CORTRAMID in San Diego. Had Marine week and Aviation; now in Surface.
