Anyone know anything about being selected for OSI?

I read that it is a boarded(?) AFSC, what exactly does that mean in the scheme of things? Do you apply for your normal dream sheet with OSI at the top or is it a separate application process?

Also, are there any major requirements / majors that make candidates more competitive?

Thank you for your reply @Falcon A. I did see that link before posting but you'll notice that there is only a contact number in the USAFA section (unlike the other sections that have documents with info attached). I was just wondering if anyone had experience going through the process at the Academy and what that specifically entailed. Thanks

Copy...good...if you are at the Academy then I would follow the instructions in that paragraph.

If you are AFROTC, there is a hidden hyperlink in the first few words of the AFROTC paragraph that takes you to a detailed memo describing that process. SA may be similar.

Good luck

There's a guy at our AFROTC Det who wants to go OSI. From what I understand, only roughly 10 ROTC officers get those slots every year. It's hyper-competitive and you need great stats across the board. Not to mention, knowing a critical language (Russian, Chinese, Arabic, etc.) is extremely helpful. Best of luck!

I had a friend who wanted OSI out of the Academy. She was well within the top 10% of our class but our year only had 7 OSI slots and she didn't get it. If I remember right you still put it on your dream sheet but there is a whole separate process that you also go through. They sent out several calls for applications while I was a cadet via email.

I have a great friend who has been an OSI agent for 16 years now. It's the only afsc that is boarded (they do their own selections in house). They look at the whole person concept, just like the academy does, but a lot more competitive (it doesn't matter what major you choose). Also there's an interview before they make the decision.
