I tried joining on FB and it asked for picture of my DS's appointment but could find no way to upload it so I just answered the questions. My request remains pending. TIA.

Any other parents from FL?

One thing to note when you do get into the group. Understand you will hear rumors swirl on anything and everything so don’t believe any of it until it comes from an official source. There are so many parents on there that talk to their cadets everyday and get on those pages and spill anything they’ve heard without regard to truth. I barely get on them because of that very reason. Don’t get me wrong there are very good people on there and very helpful things to gain but over time you’ll begin to see the same names over and over that try to be the first on breaking news and gossip. You’ve been warned lol

Would it be appropriate for me to join the Facebook group before my son accepts his appointment? (And then of course leave the group if he chooses not to commit)

That would not be possible, you have to show proof of acceptance.

LOL! Fully anticipating this! I promise I won’t be one of those 🤪

We emailed in the acceptance letter a couple days ago per the instructions. Our request to join is pending.

ETA: I used a different email than the one listed above. If I don't hear back soon - I'll try forward to the email listed here. Hopefully it's not an issue - don't like the idea of emailing off the acceptance letter and it not ending up in the right place.

There is a group specifically for USAFA Class of 2025 Parents and also a larger USAFA Parents Resource Group. I had to request access to each separately - fill out FB request then email acceptance letter.

There are currently some undecided appointee parents on there. You need to request to join and email them the offer of appointment but yes if your appointee does decide to decline the appointment to please leave the group.

Anyone know if these Facebook groups and gmail addresses are legit and not simply someone collecting information on students?

The official groups are absolutely legit.

How useful they are is an open question. Initially, they will provide some useful information. As time goes on, the amount of complaining, whining, and misinformation definitely increases as personalities are revealed.

@Korab is spot on - they are legit, and my experience is they really do vet you carefully.

The 4 admins for 2025 (same as ours for 2024 page!) and the parent liaison (Marie N) are excellent!!!! They provide timely and accurate information as well as appropriately monitor the threads. They are also very responsive to PMs, both these admins plus the ones on the Parent Resource page.

My advice, reread @Bigrod 's post!
