Son had his application and interview complete in time for the first round.

Is anyone else, who had their packages complete in August, still waiting to hear?

Honestly, he felt pretty confident with his grades, rank, test scores, leadership and community service that he would secure an engineering scholarship.

His online status shows that "no decision" has been made, but it's been like that for months.

He's wanting to call to check on his application. Is this a good idea? If he does that, who should he call FL ? or recruiter here?

Thanks!

If you call, I'd call the local recruiter or the PMS at his top choice school. As far as the status on the NROTC scholarship site......my daughter's status is the same as your sons and she recieved her scholarship offer in the mail today. No telling when the site will be updated. Good luck to you and your son.

check Dodmerb, it was updated way before any online status. I just received an NROTC scholarship to Virgina Tech today and a type 7 Air Force ROTC one on Saturday. What a Christmas! Both my statuses on the websites have not changed however.

Thanks, aglades and carp28. Son has been checking DoDMerb. No activity from NROTC on there, only the SA's he's also applying to.

I guess we just didn't expect it to take this long. Just hoping something didn't slip through the cracks. Would hate to find out that happened, well after the last Board.

Thanks for your help. I guess we just need to be patient and settle in for the long haul!

Status Change

My daughter's NROTC scholarship status has changed to a "Congratulations!" status. Although we recieved the official offer in the mail today, the following statement was on the status page:

"You will be notified in writing of your selection status approximately two weeks after the information is posted on this web site."

The holidays may be having an impact on the timing of these notifications.

fairwinds,

I happen to be in the same boat as your son. I felt confident with my stats and everything but still no responses from NROTC or AROTC. I am starting to get a little anxious that I will not be receiving a scholarship but my parents keep reminding me that it is still early in the scholarship season. The way I see it, it is completely out of my hands, I did all I could and there are plenty of boards left. Just keeping a positive attitude and making sure i have a backup plan.

I would have your son follow up with his recruiter to start. Our son's application fell through the cracks earlier this year. He finished his portion by the end of June, his local recruiters submitted their part the first week of August and it was intended that he would be looked at before the first board. In Millington, apparently, his application for NROTC became separated from the additional paperwork for him to be looked at before the first board. By the beginning of October when we had heard nothing, son called his local recruiters who knew that it had been submitted. Husband made inquiries since he was at NRC in Millington. At that point, son's application was found and forwarded to Florida and put before the next board in Nov. He found out 2 weeks later. Since our son's application had sat undisturbed at NRC for months as far as we could tell, I am unsure that it would have made it before any boards. If your son has a very strong application and it seems unusual for it to have been passed over for the Aug-Nov boards, I would pursue it further.

Son's notification just changed to:

If you do not know if you should accept or decline a scholarship: you are not obligated in any way if you should accept; it is in your best interest to accept.

My sons page changed to that today also. Think it means they were not selected at the recent board and have been deferred to the next one.

got arotc and afrotc scholarship offers in the mail today. It would have been too much of a good thing if NROTC came through today also! I'm just glad it changed to something that appears like they actually have son's application!

NROTC is the only military scholarship program my son is interested in so the waiting is hard lol. Congrats to your son for his successes today!

Great news singaporemom! Your son recieved AROTC and AFROTC today and my daughter recieved AROTC and NROTC today. Air Force is my daughter's first choice so naturally we haven't recieved it yet. However, we certainly can't complain about our good fortune. The Army and Navy have helped make our Christmas special. :thumb:

I wish my son had a first choice! AROTC scholarship is for Math major. AFROTC scholarship is for language major. So not only does he need to decide on military branch he has to decide again on major!!

Don't forget he also has to decide on a college. Your situation is almost as complicated as Goliedad's with his trying to balance his daughter's sports program choices with the other things.

We just need to hope that the Air Force will breakdown and part with at least a Type 2 scholarship (if they award any scholarship) for Nursing so that my daughter can attend her first choice school (she has been accepted). There isn't a NROTC unit there so it's either Type 2 AFROTC or AROTC.
