I was wondering if it was worth $1728 to get pictures of my DS during 6 weeks of BCT? Even if I cancel after the minimum 1 year contract, I feel like they are taking advantage of parents who just want to see that their kid is doing ok. I know AFA has saved me tuition etc, but I just don't like feeling being taken advantage of. This is a minimum of $432, if I cancel after 1 year. And what if there are no pictures of my DS, can I cancel?

I'll let other people tell you their 2 cents about the worth of Webguy, but you can follow KAFA on Facebook as an alternative and they post a decent number of pictures of all the basics for free (not nearly the volume of Webguy though).

It was worth every dime to me, but I’m a single mom who had just sent my only child across the country alone, so the pictures were my only comfort. I ended up with tons of pictures and made a scrapbook of them for my son for his first Christmas home. He absolutely loved it and showed it to everyone.

As a current Basic parent, it is worth it so far!! There are other ways to get photos though. As mentioned above, KAFA and parents are sharing many of the WebGuy photos on the FB groups.

Wow. That's a lot of dough.
At USNA, you join the Alumni Association ($70 per year) and have access to thousands of photos, arranged by Company (Squadron for you USAFA folks).

I choose to think of the membership as suppporting the AOG and it’s mission and paying for my son’s lifetime membership. Yep I’ll count that as a graduation gift! WebGuy pics are just a wonderful bonus:)

We did the Webguy thing for all 4 years and I would do it again with no regrets. We got our access through purchasing a lifetime AOG membership for our son and that included the 4-year access for us as well as the AOG discount at the Visitor Center gift shop. My wife definitely got her money back in discounts over the years.

I check webguy constantly to see what is going on at BCT with my DD. I have found tons of pictures of her and I am so grateful for webguy. I am able to see her and she appears mentally and physically good and happy. It is so well worth the cost and peace of mind to see her and it is memories for her to have when it is all said and done. I bookmark them and download them and put them on social media so her friends and extended family can see her. I don't know what I would do without webguy at this point.

I definitely see your point. For that very reason I was hesitant to sign up for Webguy. I’m glad I did it for a multitude of reasons. I have gotten a lot of great pictures and gives me some idea of what his days are like. But also very recently it gave me peace of mind. In the second letter of my DS sent me, he told me that he had to report to medical for inflamed ribs. I was obviously very worried and distraught, and even posted questions on this forum about what I could expect or what might be happening. Well the very next day after receiving that letter I went onto Web guy to look for pictures of my DS. I was thrilled and so relieved to see that he was back in action and engaging in the swimming and diving exercises, looking no worse for wear. That made a huge difference for me since I am a nonstop worry wart! To me, it’s been worth every penny.

At CGA you just make friends with Paul Duddy on Facebook, all the pics and videos you can handle free of charge. :biglaugh:

We've got about 100 pictures of our daughter over the course of 2 1/2 weeks if that helps you make a decision.

+1 2021mom. View paying for WebGuy much the same way as you.

Actually......make that 200, on the nose. Many are very similar since they rapid fire to catch a particular group, but it seems they are spread out across all the aspects of BCT that Webguy is permitted to photograph.

Very worthwhile to see what our DS is up to every day and see him smiling. And it's not just for BCT the photos go on throughout all 4 years, with photos of summer programs, other events. And we know he will want to be a member of the AOG so, the way I see it, paying for his lifetime AOG membership (and our parent membership) is a small price to pay considering he's on a full ride for a $400K+ education, and the photo access is a nice bonus.

I had no idea webguy was so expensive. Back before the telegraph service, I think we paid $80 - maybe.

We still have webguy's pix of our basics (now Captains) on our "I LOVE ME" wall. Second day at BCT meal, running, bleeding, smiling, scowling. They are fun.

We had 3 yo grandson here for a day and showed him pix of his father and identical twin uncle at BCT and asked if grandson could pick out which one was dad. He did! Perceptive little rascal.

Absolutely!

ok, I have to chime in here.. My kiddo just In-Processed yesterday at USAFA Prep. Last night I pulled almost 20 pics off webguy of my DS! 5 of him were getting his hair cut and the GRIN - yup there were a couple of kids who actually smiled.. mine was the one with HUGE SMILE IN ALL 5 PICS - the smile that came straight from his soul. This momma slept amazing last night!

I think it's worth it. My DS just finished his first year and there are over 240 photo's of him. From cadet training, leadership classes, lectures, formation, jump, etc. I was able to make a slideshow showing his last year to him and his friends that he appreciated having so he could share the moments that none of us experienced. Plus you get ordering discounts and the monthly newsletter... and the AOG magazine. In the past year, I think we spent more for his senior pictures (to put it in perspective) and there are many more memories attached to webguy.
