Hi everyone, my dream since 7th grade was to attend USNA '22 and now I'm getting close to NASS application time and I can't wait. But I was wondering whether I should retake honors chemistry or take AP physics. My final year grade in chemistry was a C+ which is not good, and I was wondering if it would be more beneficial to retake the class or take AP physics. Thanks

What is your overall GPA and what other AP courses have you taken? They will look at the whole person concept. So, that includes academics, leadership opportunities, volunteerism, and extra curricular activities.

Thanks for the response! My GPA is only a 3.48 unweighted but I have taken AP language, AP literature, Calc AB, and next year I plan on taking AP advanced American literature, AP stats and AP US history. I am also captain of my cross country team and assistant captain of my hockey team. I play 3 varsity sports and have been a 2x conference all star. I am a student ambassador to the state athletic board, founder and president of the history abroad club at my school and I was class secretary one year. I have over 200 volunteer hours and ran a highly publicized city wide campaign on Election Day to help veterans and collected over 500 lbs of goods to donate to the local veterans center.

Your stats are similar to my DS. Same classes, similar GPA for the most part, and he too is the captain of the XC team. He is a senior and recently got triple nominated for the USAFA.

Thank you that makes me feel a little better about getting in. What state are you from if you don't mind me asking? I know some states are more competitive for specific academies.

I will advice you go ahead and take the physics class if you believe you have what it takes to make it thru and pull out good grades. If you had a C+ in honors Chemistry, and then got As or Bs in AP physics, then it might just be that you weren't getting the right prep from teacher or you just didn't pay that much attention in chem. What I mean is you repeating Chem at this point won't really help you, if you think you have a greater strength in physics, then go ahead and take it. Good luck!!
