Hello all, quick question. I am a sophomore and I am beginning the process of selecting AP courses for my junior year. Is AP Stats a good class to have under my belt as a SA hopeful (I would be taking Honors Precalculus along with this)? Thanks to everyone who helps me out!

Practically speaking, if you want to actually go into a STEM field and do research, this class along with AP Psych (if your school has a rigorous enough of a course) is invaluable. As far as what USNA thinks, doing well in a hard class is really what they care about along with it being STEM related.

As such, I'd say go for it, I'm taking it senior year, just line it up so you fit up your graduation requirements

My DD took AP Stat sophomore year and got an A... there was some mix up in something somewhere and her class never took the AP test for college credit. This year as a Dual enrolled Senior she is taking it along with college trig at our local community college. She says it's a breeze for her because she had AP her sophomore year. My vote is take it... it is a required course for most Bachelor's degrees wherever you go.

I went to a Liberal Arts college and it was a requirement in the core curriculum for everyone.

Always good to take AP Stats. Talk to your HS counselor. Or HS suggested students take AP Stat and Pre Calc in the same year. This then freed you up to take calc (either AP or honors) without having another high level math course.
All three of my children did this and were able to complete AP Calc AB and or AB/BC their senior year.

Is AP Statistics a good course to take - relative to what?

As the other people commenting have already said - it is a good foundational course and likely will help you in whatever school you attend. But, are you asking should you take AP Stats in lieu of another course? And if so, what other course(s).

The SA's will want to know that you took the most rigorous course schedule available.

Every major (or at least 90% of them) will take some version of prob/stats. Might help to have it under your belt.
