Hi, so I am a freshman in highschool and I just finished an AP class and we need to turn in our applications to take the AP test soon. It is optional and I was wondering if I should take it even though credits don't matter as far as I know at WP. Thanks for any input.

Think about your long range goals. As you work on your Plan A, (WP) also have a Plan B and C. Your Plan A has a very "high bar", and in the advent you don't make it in, you'll be well equipped for Plan B and C. I know thats not the answer you want, but do you really want a bunch of strangers making decisions for you.

Work your plan, then plan your work.

Thanks tug, that's what everyone else I've asked has said and I just wanted to bounce it off some other experienced people in the USMA community.

If you think you can get a 4 or 5 on the AP test, take it. It will give you options when you start your freshman year in college.

I have a similar question... If an appointment is secured, should my DD take her AP Exams this year (senior year). Stats, Chem and Lit. Woud the scores be used for placement in any way?

Your advice for plans B and C is excellent.

Thank you.

"When" an appointment is secured then no its not needed. Your DD could challenge Plebe year courses, however she will be placed in advanced courses. The advanced courses could have added stresses that could be difficult to rebound from if her grades are not up to par. There are Plebes that take on advance courses in hopes of freeing up time in their junior or senior year. But the courses are very difficult especially for a Plebe going directly from high school. I wouldn't advise it. there are some very intelligent students that can manage that, and they are the same ones who finish in the upper 200s of their class. The Cadet academic work load on average is 18 to 24 credits per semester. Time management is key.
