AP Tests---Should I take them?

Hello everyone,

I am an appointee to the Class of 2017 and a senior in High School. It is time to make the decision whether to pay $450 for 5 AP exams or not. My question is: should I even bother taking (and paying for) the AP exams which are not even eligible for course validation credit at USAFA?

Thanks.

My DS, a current plebe at USNA, validated three courses thanks to his AP exam scores...not sure if USAFA does the same or not...

To clarify, USAFA may validate certain tests, like math and chemistry, but several of my other AP tests have no validation value at all. Should I take those tests?

Depending on the courses you are taking, some AP scores alone will let you validate a class. Others will require that you receive a satisfactory score on the placement exam as well.

My own thinking is to always have backup plans, even when you're an appointee. One never knows what the future holds. Unless it's unaffordable, take them. Since currently your college education is free I expect the tests themselves become affordable.

Does Validation mean

you get out of a certain Course, get Credit for it, or have to just take the next one or two in the sequence? Thank you!
