I'm a newbie here and had a question that I couldn't find by a search. My daughter recently accepted her Appointment for the class of 2013 and we were wondering if anyone knows if AP test scores count for course validation at all? If you score a 5 do you still take the validation test durning Plebe summer? If you score low on AP would it affect taking a validation test?

All of the validation information is also in the "Candidate Academic Background System" (posted in another thread) that can be found on this website: http://www.usna.edu/AcDean/candidateinfo.html
I guess we will be taking math/ calc placement exams online. But I wouldn't fill anything out until our "permit to report" packages arrive.

The AP test score does count for something, but she will still have to validate at USNA. The AP exam is a good test to show where you stand, so my son is still going to take it. Besides, it will help him prepare for the validation test given by USNA.

From what I've been told, you either pass the USNA validation or you take the class.

Definitely read through the policy link (see previous posts). Some AP test scores are sufficient for validation. Others, specifically calculus and chemistry, require successful completion of the USNA validation exam(s) either via CABS prior to I-day (calculus), or during Plebe summer (chemistry and various other classes).

You should check out CABS, it will tell you everything you need to know about validating a course. It even tells you how many mids validate a particular subject, and which topics are covered on each test.
