My status still hasn’t changed to the candidate stage. My application was deemed competitive. What does this mean?

No one has changed to candidate stage yet. It should be anytime now though. I'm in the same place as you are.

It means that this is a holiday weekend and no one is probably there to change everyone's status. Relax. You have another year of waiting for one thing or another so don't waste too much effort on it, yet. Go light some fireworks, have a picnic with your family, and check your portal again on Wednesday.

Ya. Go light some fireworks. Lol.

Haha... You guys are funny! I’ve gotten lost in this busy life that I completely forgot about the holiday!

Applicants will start being promoted to candidate status on the 15th of July. Promotions will occur in waves based on when the pre-candidate application was completed. About 130 will be promoted a day. Expect that it will take about a month to clear the backlog.

So I should be expecting it soon... I actually completed it a hour after the portal opened. I also attended SS.

If you used your summer seminar application as your pre-candidate application then you should be promoted to candidate status soon after the 15th.

Update: false alarm here! So sorry! My son was out of town and checked his app on his phone. I guess it looked different which he interpreted as a change. Checked it this morning from a regular computer (we got home late last night), and no change. Sorry for the confusion!

OK, fencersmother weighs in:

Please, everyone, B.R.E.A.T.H.E.

There now. Don't you feel better? Instead of fussing, in mid-July, about one's status, which one may not learn until March or (keep breathing!) even later, just relax. You are on step 84 of about 1776 (see how I did that?). You will be up, be down, be mixed up (that's why you're visiting SAF practically hourly). Make a wall calendar (putting your time to good use) with all deadlines, and I mean ALL, for the upcoming school year. Yes, high school stuff, games, band, whatever. Job. Sport. and COLLEGE DEADLINES, including financial aid deadlines. In fact, make TWO calendars (and I mean WALL CALENDARS, not just for your computer or phone, but one you actually tape up to your wall, in the hall, in your room, in the den, etc) - make one for your personal use, and one (ok, a big one) that Mom & Dad can refer to regularly. Pencil and ink stuff in. Mom and Dad can't blame themselves now, nor blame YOU, if deadlines get missed, and you lose that $100,000 scholarship to Flagship State U.

What you should all be more concerned about is that Steeler Football starts August 11 against the Giants (pre-season though so who really cares?), with the Regular Season Sept 10th against the Browns (away), and the homeopener Sept 17 against the Vikings. OK. Now, you have something to get excited about!!!!! :groupwave:

I hope your information is accurate.

I'm just reiterating what has been said. I have reached out to an admission counsellor and I was told they're currently reviewing applications, and that they would be reopening applications soon. So it seems about right.
