Hey guys,

I have completed everything for my NROTC App (Interview, app, essay, sent transcripts + PFT) about a month ago. I was checking up my status about 2 weeks ago, and I noticed that there was an option that allowed me to update my school preference. I made some alterations (primarily moving 1 or 2 schools on my top 3). Will this cause my status to lose its place in line? Thanks!

Also, I dont know if this is some site error, but when I go to my "Check App Status" on the main NROTC site, it says nothing and shows only my censored SSN and DOB. However when I go to my "Online Application login", I can view this statement that says "Your application is at Naval Education and Training Command for final processing and selection determination. Selection decisions will begin in late August and continue until the end of April. Once a selection decision has been made, your new status will be reflected."
Is this what it is supposed to be?

No, adjusting your school lists will not alter your application status. You can adjust school order anytime you need to.

As for the screen, it's been a couple years but that sounds about right. :)

Good luck!

Perfect! Thanks for the quick reply!
Yes, it shouldn't make a difference.

My DS was able to make changes to his scholarship even up to this past spring, dropping his #1 completely off his list, and moving another school into #1 that wasn't part of the initial list. (He decided upon his #1 after visiting 5 different schools that he applied (and was accepted to).

The NROTC boards don't even look at the schools until AFTER you've been awarded a scholarship. You canm change it as often as you need to until you've been awarded a scholarship by the boards. My son changed his school order at least once, we completed making our college visits.

Is NROTC different from Army ROTC in that you get a scholarship that is NOT tied to a particular school? I seem to recall DS's AROTC scholarship offer awarded to a particular school and you had to ask to transfer it from there if you wanted to go somewhere else.

No. NROTC assigns the scholarship to a particular school. They just treat assigning the school as a different process from deciding to award the scholarship. So...
1. Scholarship is awarded by the board
2. Another group looks at the school choices, what slots are available at each, and assigns the school. Very infrequently, when no slots are available at the desired schools, the scholarship gets awarded to a school the recipient didn't even apply to.... but that's another story.
