Spoke with my recruiter this morning regarding my application. He told me that my application had been reviewed in the first round, meaning last week (I applied EA1). He said that its status was "pending decision" and I never asked him what that meant? I know that it obviously means they have yet to make a decision, but if some people have already been accepted... Then does that mean bad things? He also told me that if they were to reject it, they would've done so by now. I'm just a little anxious and nervous as to my current status- the USCGA has been a big part of my ultimate goal for many years now. Thank you for any help!

I also applied EA1, and got the email confirmation that my application would be reviewed shortly. As much as we all hope for an appointment, it's going to be really tough this year. The class of 2017 is going to be really small, perhaps just 240. Of those 240, about 50 are coming from prep schools. That leaves just 190 slots for graduating high school candidates.

I was able to spend a couple days on campus in late September (Bean Sprout), and learned that admissions wouldn't string anyone along as they may have done in past years. The Admissions representative indicates that both Appointments and Rejections will come early. Very few candidates will be deferred or wait-listed.

Does anyone have a general idea of when we can expect to hear back from the academy on their decision after receiving the e-mail?

A status of "Pending Decision" is not secret code for something...it literally just means that a final decision has not been made on your record yet. It's entirely up to you if you think that's a positive (they haven't rejected me) or negative (they haven't appointed me) status to have right now, but it really means to just keep being patient and waiting for a decision.
