Hey!

Does anybody know when the USMA application for the USMA class of 2014 comes out? Also, what would be considered an early time to complete and send that form to USMA by? Thanks.

You can already open your application. I already have my DoDMERB appointments complete, have taken the CFA, and have applied for nominations. So to complete it and send it in would be ASAP.

However, there will still be some things needed after that. From what I've heard it's mainly contact information of your guidance counselor and three teachers (math, english, and science). The application for that will be sent out mid-August, if I'm not mistaken.

That unnerves me a bit. I'm a full candidate and have a candidate file, but I haven't gotten my appointments with DoDMERB yet. I've asked my Liasson officer about this, but he says that after 50% of my app is complete, DoDMERB will contact me. Anyone know what I should exactly do?

he must be wrong. I received instructions from Concorde (Dodmerb's service) the day before I left for SLS and about half the kids there had too. The other half hadn't checked yet.

Do not worry if you have not heard from Dodmerb right away. when i was going through the process I did not hear from them untill the middle of the summer. You could try posting on the medical board of this sight why you have not heard. Usually Larry Mullen who works for dodmerb will answer your questions or help you get the information.

From a Plebe Candidate with USMMA Indoc only 2 Days away.

Does West Point require a letter(s) of recommendation when you send the admission packet to them, like the senators and congressmen need when you send them your packet?

Kind of. You have to have evaluations completed by a math, science, and english teacher.

Was is the specific address that I should send the USMA admission packet to?

Dude chill out. You don't need to submit anything yet if youve finished your prelim application and done your medical. They will open up the info in august with the teacher evaluations which are done online by your teacher along with the rest of the application. And the teacher evaluations aren't letters, they are forms filled out by your teacher that are mostly numerical rankings of stuff like "how would you rate this childs leadership in the classroom" and such. This is the "second step kit."

Effect of Letter of Assurance Plus Presidential Nomination

My son received a presidential nomination a week or so ago. Today he received a LOA from USMA. It is my understanding that an LOA means that he will receive an appointment IF he receives a nomination.

Since he has a nomination, does this mean that he will receive an appointment subject to receipt of letters of recommendation, medical, etc?

Wow, they're handing out LOA's already?? I didn't think they did that until September-ish...

My understanding is that the LOA means he's completely qualified with everything USMA evaluates: CFA, academics, and leadership. This means he will receive an appointment as long as he passes DoDMERB evaluations and has a nomination. And this is why I'm confused as to why he would receive a LOA already, since his application is obviously incomplete -- the application packet for USMA (or whatever it's called) hasn't been sent out yet, so they don't have his official transcript or the recommendations from teachers...

Not knocking your son or anything... I received my presidential nomination about the same time. :)

The LOA spells out the conditions. If your son has passed DoDMERB already and all he needed was the nom, then he will be offered an appointment. He must be an extremely strong candidate in academics and leadership to be offered one so early. Congratulations to him!!! One piece of advice: still seek the MOC noms. Why? That frees your son's presidential nom to go to someone else. Once your MOCs know your son has an LOA (send copy w/ apps), they will likely be delighted to give him the nom as well. They want to offer noms to students who will receive appointments. This way, they know two on their slate will get in, as they are not "charged" with the nom for the LOA students.

Go Army!

His plan is to continue with the other avenues of nomination, precisely for the reason you state.... It will free up the Presidential slots for other candidates.

My roomie from SLS texted me earlier with the news that she received a LOA.
She has a 5.5/6 WGPA, 3.9/4 UW GPA, 35 ACT.

This way, they know two on their slate will get in, as they are not "charged" with the nom for the LOA students.

So this is not true with the Presidential Nominations as well?

I received my DODMErb stuff he week after I submitted my candidate questionaire bud...

Where can i open my application? Are you talking about the initial candidate file? I remember at sls the officers said that the applications won't be available until August...
