Application Status

I was going to ask the moderators about that. I'm interpreting the message just that way - For regular cadet candidates you won't know if you've been appointed till late March and the final mailing will be in late April. That's cutting it pretty close for a lot of folks - especially if they have scholarships to other schools - they'll be needing to commit by the first week of June in many cases to keep their slots there...

Is this is a typical timeline? If not, what is the strategy in stretching out the process? Could it possibly be some sort of natural weeding out process so admissions choice is made for them because candidates will have tired and simply decided to go with plan B?

This just reaffirms that each candidate must have a solid B Plan in place. Last year some advised keeping the B school slot until BCT is finished in August in case of injury or dropping out for some other reason.

USAFA is not going to "officially" make a statement that says anything about how many LOA's they are going to award, what their appointment criteria is for the class of 2016, etc. (My opinion only here, but if they did it would be a first in my 17 years as an ALO)

Counselors may tell candidates one thing, ALO's may say something different, and other folks in "RRS" (the admissions directorate) might say something entirely different on any given day/minute. And it's not that they're trying to confuse, obfuscate, or deceive...we are all on different "teams" with the admissions directorate and different "plans" may be in place at different times.

It really is NOTHING for folks here to worry about or concern themselves with trying to "second guess" or otherwise. I realize that's NOT a "satisfying" answer but it is realistic.

"OFFICIALLY" what I've been told and can state here (after having confirmed it with folks at USAFA/RRS, I do work for them as an ALO) is that this class will be the smallest in decades and because of that, the admissions directorate will take "as much time as necessary to give all candidates their best opportunity to qualify for appointment."

I translate to be: "don't plan on many LOA's at all and the VAST majority of appointments will be late in the "normal" cycle: March/April 2012."

Because appointments are going to go out so late, are candidates going to need to submi t their first semester grades from this year around january?

I'm holding whatever slots we've got till the end - Heck - they're already payed for! All I can say is - I'm planning on living long enough to become a real problem - the son had BETTER not put me in a bad nursing home which - according to him - means ugly women and no beer -...

You always want to update your file with additional awards, improved grades, etc. Last year admissions had a deadline in February (I think) for completed applications so DS did submit 2nd semester grades. As has been mentioned before, this year is going to be different so be careful when comparing things to how they've been done in the past.

Good Luck. :thumb:
