Application Status?

I am a first time college applicant to USAFA and put in my PCQ. I submitted it 7/7/18. My portal reads:

Applicant* (your application is under consideration)
Your Application is:
Competitive
Last reviewed on 7/9/2018

Submitted on:
7/7/2018

What does this mean? What is a "competitive applicant"? When should I expect to get moved to candidate phase?

It means that your are a competitive applicant. You should be moved pretty soon since the application is available

So that means simply means my file hasn’t been fully reviewed yet? I got an update on 7/10 with a letter saying I was competitive but I didn’t get moved to candidate status. I guess what I’m asking is what the difference between competitive applicant and candidate?

@smd400 Competitive means you are still in the pre-candidate stage, but since you are deemed competitive you will be moved to candidate stage. I read somewhere on the forum that admissions will move everyone (who has been prequalified) by the end of July. Keep checking your portal.

With USNA, they don't even give you a Candidate number unless you're "competitive".
Having that feedback nearly right away (2 days after you submitted), is both outstanding and encouraging.

Don't get used to it. This process can take 8 months or more. It's a marathon.

I called the Academy a few weeks ago about the same issue and they told me that because of the servers are slow or outdated they cannot migrate every eligible applicant to candidate in one sitting. The amount of people would crash the server and to fix this they typically update around 150 a day.

Just like every other person on this site the application is a marathon and some things take time. Enjoy life before going back to school and starting your senior year. The Academy will Email you when you are migrated over.

Also the military is a big HURRY UP AND WAIT game (get used to it now).
