I am really interested in VMI and the Citadel, what are the absolute earliest you could begin your application?

What would be the best time to apply for a ROTC scholarship in the application process? I am just trying to see when to start the process. [I'm a freshman]. Does it pay to go and visit the colleges, since I am pretty far away? [Texas]


Also, where does taking the SAT/ACT fit into application [optimal time]

Kind of echoing what I wrote in the USMA thread, ROTC application starts second semester junior year. You really cannot do anything as far as applying until then. Now I know you're thinking "well... this sucks. I really want to go there and I'm justSOexcitedandIcan'twait!!!". A few things:

a) breathe.
b) I felt the same way and waiting sucks, but it must be done.
c) there are things you can still do now: i.e. Varsity athletics, AP classes, etc.
d) with your kind of motivation and your drive to be an officer, I'm confident that you'll find a way.

Final words: Do well in high school and then once Junior and Senior year roll around you'll be glad you did. :thumb:
 
Hi Texan! If you're interested in VMI and the Citadel, you might also consider the Corps at Texas A&M. Fantastic military college experience and closer to home, too!

I'd say if you've got any sort of anti-Ag bias, sign up to spend the night w/the corps as soon as you can. (Should be junior year, I think.) We take our college bias seriously here in TX (trust me, I get it) but you owe yourself at least the visit. :)
 
I'm not sure when the earliest is, but I applied around May or so of last year, completed the application in August (once the school re-opened and I could get transcripts), and was accepted in September.
The ROTC scholarship cycles open May 15. That is for all of them, I believe.
 
I don't know much about the military ROTC scholarship applications or for applying to VMI.

As for The Citadel, you can apply beginning in July. If you are seriously considering coming here then I would highly recommend visiting. It gives you a good feel for what you can expect as a knob.
