Applications/LOAs up or down this year?

does anyone know whether USNA applications and LOAs are up or down this year? I have heard of only one USNA LOA in my large metro area
 
LOA is a lottery. No one knows how many or the requirements to get one. Best of luck and I hope your's is in the mail.
 
USNA has never publically stated how many LOA's they give out each year, so anyone quoting figures is simply speculating.
 
I don't know if this is a good figure, but when I went in for interviews with my Senator's selection committee, at least two of the other candidates I met had LOAs, and I have one as well. One of the others is from my district, but I come from a very competitive area with many many applicants and regularly more than the single person per slate eventually end up with appointments.
 
Applications for 2017 seem to be at about 16,000 currently, not sure whether that is enough info to say they are up or down from the last few years. Keep in mind that the first real thinning of the herd will be done by the MOC's in the next few weeks. They account for the largest portion of noms - about 5,000 out of a total of about 6,500 (check the class profiles for the past few years to confirm for yourself). Best wishes to all of you, but keep polishing your plans B, C, and D just in case.
