Hello there, I already received a nomination to USNA and finished all my interviews a couple months ago. Im pretty sure my district distributed all nominations. But I just decided to finish and submit my app to USMA as a backup (after speaking with cadets there a couple weeks ago). Is this OK? Should I email my nominating sources about this (which makes me seem procrastinating) or just leave it bc it’s too late? I would be fine w getting prep school acceptance if no nom.

It can't hurt to call your nominating sources, explain that you have decided to put in an application for USMA, and ask if it is possible to get a nomination for USMA in addition to USNA (be sure to thank them for the USNA nomination).

If you are in a district with many candidates, there is likely no chance. If you are in a district with more nominations than candidates, there is a pretty good chance, although there is still the possibility they will say sorry, too late.

Thanks. Would it be OK to not notify them and hope I get a VP nom or prep school spot? My parents said it’s too late and would make me seem like idk what I want if I notify them now.

With all due respect to your parents, this is your application. I would recommend notifying all nomination sources. You have nothing to lose at this point.

Nothing ventured, nothing gained.
It’s better to make an error of commission than omission.
Advocate for yourself. A “no” will not physically kill you.

It takes courage to communicate live and ask for something for yourself on the phone. It’s a life skill. Think it through and sketch out a script.

“Hello, this is Sam US2021, and I was very honored to receive a nomination to USNA from Representative Filibuster. I have completed my USNA application and am hoping for the best. Thank you for your contribution to this process.

I have a difficult question to ask, but I don’t want to leave any stone unturned. I have only recently come to the realization that I think I could also see myself at West Point as a viable alternate path to service. I did not originally apply for a nomination to USMA and meet the deadline. Is there by any chance a USMA nomination available for which I could be considered? I have completed an application to USMA.”
