Applied for in-person Summer Seminar but accepted into the virtual session, what now?

Hi all, when I applied for the Summer Seminar I checked to box for in-person attendance, but now I got my decision and it says I was accepted into the virtual session. I would massively prefer to go in-person, is there any way I can request a change? If not, from people who have attended the virtual sessions, what are they like and how do they compare to in-person? I am considering not accepting the offer for the virtual session but I a) want more information on what it is really like and b) am afraid that getting an offer and then rejecting it will look bad on my application. Thanks to all.

Everyone in this position needs to send an email to their admissions team requesting that an additional in-person session be created. If there is enough interest we might be able to make a change. I already sent an email, and you should too.

Both sessions were virtual for me, and the one I attended was awesome! I'm sure it's not quite the same as in person, but the cadets who ran the seminar did an excellent job and I walked away from those 4 days well informed about all the academy had to offer and filled with the desire to get in and attend USAFA.

That's not going to happen.

USAFA has a very strict summer schedule. Cadets will be moving to different dorms for different summer programs, others will be headed out TDY to their summer programs, and summer school will be in session...it's a BUSY place. They have time for two SS periods: one virtual and one in-person. I mistyped earlier and put two in-person sessions; that was incorrect.

After the second session (the in-person one) ends (17 June), the next day the 1st summer training period for cadets ends and the second session begins. That has a mass flow of cadets. Then, the following Thursday (23 June) the Class of 2026 enters, and 1st BCT begins.

This is why there are only two sessions.

Sir - There is only one in-person session and one virtual session. Are they changing the virtual session to in-person?

I-Day is June 23rd not the 26th.

I think you should get used to this type of thinking not working with Big Blue and Uncle Sam.

Geez...I'm having one of those typing days....

Of course, you're correct; it is Thursday the 23rd...no clue how I typed 26 there. No, I figured it out...I was thinking Class of '26...and typed that as the date....yes, that's it. At least, that's my story and I'm sticking to it!

I'm going to go reboot myself...

***slightly confused momentarily***

Would they change the virtual to in-person if enough requested it?
I can't answer that with 100% certainty but I'd bet my pension the answer is no.

The use of a virtual would tell me that they don't have the ability (personnel, capacity, scheduling ability, etc.) to hold two in-person sessions at present. I don't know why.

First I am excited to have received an acceptance even if it is virtual. Not sure what to do. The reason I requested in person was the virtual overlaps with JCLC. Do I do the virtual or deny and do the JCLC? @flieger83 thoughts?

Are you speaking of AJROTC's JCLC?

Hey y'all,
I went to the virtual session (last year) and had a blast, great people, exceptionally organized, and while it obviously wouldn't compare to the in-person session (because being there is amazing!), was an awesome experience. From what I think I remember the cadets saying... and I'm paraphrasing here: "It's pretty much the same material as the in-person, we tried really, really hard to make this as informative as possible." ... something like that. You got in person? Great! You got virtual? Great! It really is a win-win. Plus, you can probably just schedule a tour of USAFA now that COVID isn't what it used to be... if seeing USAFA was your big deciding factor about USAFA SS.
Whatever you do, give it your all!

That's a tough choice.

Here's my ALO take. Attending Summer Seminar, whether virtually or in person, has no bearing on your candidacy at USAFA. MANY years ago, it did but that changed some time ago. The folks in admissions don't use the summer seminar as a discriminator. That's what they tell ALOs every year. I have advised MANY candidates to decline the summer seminar for other options; the most notable is Boys/Girls State.

In your case...the question really is: which do you want to do more? Are you really active in AJROTC? Are you a cadet leader, will you take a leadership role at JCLC or ? Will JCLC enhance your resume for scholarship/appointment consideration? Which will you enjoy the most and which will give you a better experience?

In the end, it's up to you; I can't advise and an ALO shouldn't. We're here to help you look at possibilities, options, and perhaps give you a different perspective, outlook, etc.

Daughter accepted to virtual session. Could you share last year’s schedule pls? Trying to weigh pros/cons and need to decide asap.
