I applied for the NROTC scholarship for the Marines in the early board selection stage, but was not selected. I am applying again for the main board soon. Assuming I am not selected for the main board scholarship, will my two failed applications help me when I apply again later in college? I am going to attend GWU in September of 2018 if that helps at all, and hope to be part of NROTC there.

Failed application events are not going to help future applications - except to provide you experience in the process. Join your NROTC unit and make a good name for yourself with the MOI and AMOI. Distinguish yourself in all things. Reapply early and as often as you can. If you exhaust the NROTC MO scholarship option, consider PLC. Good luck.

Well, you really only update for the main board if requested. You technically only applied once.

As has been mentioned, and it does work, reapply for the scholarship if you don't make the main board. Join the ROTC unit and prove yourself to the Marine staff. That will set you up for a sideload as well. My son picked up a 4 year scholarship on the early board his 1st semester of college program NROTC. My son commissions in May ... just 4 months away.

As Grunt mentioned...PLC is also an option.

+1 to rocatlin - especially the work hard aspects. DS won a sideload scholarship that kicked in the second semester of his sophomore year.
