Afternoon all,

I am going into my second year of college at West Virginia University. I am a contracted cadet in AFROTC. This past year I applied to USNA and was wait-listed. Unfortunately I wasn't able to get a spot off the wait-list. I was wondering if I can apply again, because if I go back next semester then I have an obligation to the USAF. Thanks.

I know that for the AFA, an appointment supercedes all ROTC obligations, so you don’t have to pay anything back. You will however have to continue the program until the very last day of that school year because that is a part of your contract which will not expire until you take the oath at USAFA and in-processing.

Is this still true if I wanted to go to USNA, or is it different since it's a different branch?

Oh hello again cpkousky,

Turning your back on the AF huh? That simply won't be tolerated!

But in all seriousness, when I applied for USAFA as a contracted sophomore, I also applied to USMA and received an appointment there. What I mean to tell you is that yes you can apply again and receive an appointment. All service academies will supercede an AFROTC contract, so you will just have to go through the same process I told you about with your commander involving the release forms and finishing the program. Make sure you talk more about this with your Blue and Gold officer and your commander for more info, and good luck!
