Applying without SAT

My daughter had been planning since last year to apply EA. She was due to take SAT in March but hasn't been able to due to shutdowns. She is supposed to take it in August but our school district just announced virtual learning until January. At this point, we don't know if testing will again be canceled. She really wanted to apply EA but the info she got during AIM was to not apply until she had a completed app.

I know so many kids are in the same boat and wondering what others are doing?

Can she take the SAT in a private school in your area, in another district, or in another state? I don't believe you are locked into a specific location based on your residence.

DS#1 took the PSAT in Brazil while on an exchange. DS #2 took it at the local Lutheran High School.

Sorry for the uncertainty forced on your DD.

Best of luck!

According the the SAT folks, the best advice is to keep banging away until you find a site with spots. They are doing their best to add dates and seats, but it's not a great situation. Good Luck.

Where you upload SAT/ACT scores it says: If you have been unable to take either the ACT or SAT due to COVID-19, please upload a short explanation explaining why and whether or not you believe you will be able to take either exam by March 1, 2021."

I have similar concerns. I registered to take the SAT on August 29th but was worried about it being canceled so I called the College Board today...the guy I talked to said that they planned to update those who registered on August 1st if any cancellation decisions are made and that they already started sending testing materials to individual test centers (somewhat of a good sign). I personally don't see a good reason to cancel the test-they have five weeks to prepare to make it as safe as possible. We'll have to wait and see but having schools closed doesn't necessarily mean that there can't be SAT testing-August 29th is a Saturday too.

Great info, thanks!!

Since the SAT/ACT concerns have risen in multiple threads, I just wanted to highlight the requirements for USCGA as written in the Applicant Handbook:

CGA Admissions will still require official SAT and/or ACT scores for a complete application.

1) Submit application with existing test scores and request EA review, but inform your AO that you’re retaking ACT/SAT this fall and you don’t want to be reviewed until those new scores are received...we’ll review you in late EA round as long as we receive the new scores by 11/15. If we don’t receive the new scores by 11/15, we’ll review your application in EA using the old test scores.

2) Submit application without any test scores and request EA review, but inform your AO that you’re taking ACT/SAT this fall...we’ll review you in late EA round as long as we receive the scores by 11/15. If we don’t receive the scores by 11/15, we’ll review your application in RA.

3) Submit application with existing test scores and request RA review. We would just need to receive your new scores by 2/15 to ensure they’re considered when we review your application.

SAT: https://collegereadiness.collegeboard.org/sat/register/dates-deadlines

ACT: http://www.act.org/content/act/en/products-and-services/the-act/test-day/rescheduled-test-centers.html

Bottom line - track along one of these options and keep your AO informed every step of the way.
