I just turned 17 and I am a junior in high school, so I went to USMA's website to try to start my application but when I type in all of the information it asks for, it says based on my age/graduation year I cannot start my application yet. I am just wondering if anyone knows when I can start? Everyone I talk to says to start early because it is very long, but I try and I am not able to.

You should be able to start it spring 2013. Probably in April. It's a good idea to start then so you can get the teacher recommendations at least lined up, if not completed, before school breaks for the summer.

Mine opened up around July 25th this year, but there is a lot you can prepare for with the info on this forum and by talking with your local liaison. Of course you should also start looking into Boys State and SLS, along with SAT prep, and all the rest of that jazz.

It should allow you to begin a file in January. You will be able to use PSAT, SAT and/or ACT scores to apply for the Summer Leaders Seminar.
Also look into the boys and girls state programs in your state. Great way to gain leadership experience that counts a lot in the application process.
SLS
On USMA admissions web site you can apply for the Summer Leadership Seminar. The application process starts January 8th. (Some say it is more selective than getting into WP). SLS is a great program to understand what WP is all about. Your PSAT will be needed to complete the app or SAT/ACT if you have taken it yet. At SLS you can get a application number and begin your application. If you don't get into SLS, its not the end of the world however, you'll be allowed to open application about mid July. Its not a requirement to attended WP.
