I recieved my appointment for the class of 2014!!!!!
Now I have a question. When I talked to my regional director before the end of my second quarter, he said that if I could keep my calc grade at a B then i "wouldn't have to worry about prep school." I got my B and then I recieved an LOA and now I have my Appointment signed and sent. However, at the end of my third quarter, my grade dropped down to a C and right now in the start of the fourth term I'm having trouble keeping the B that I once had. What are the chances of my appointment getting renigged?

I would say that if you make the effort the next two quarters and show them you're not slacking off, than its still yours. Like they wanna make sure all their appointees don't get senioritis. And I don't think they renig just because of one class. Like I've got an awful english class in which I'm getting a C+ in, but all my other grades are B+ or higher. I think they take a whole look approach when considering grades, but this is all just my guess. I'd say don't worry.

Do the best you can to keep the B in Calc but you should still be alright with the C in Calc if all of your other grades are maintained. Just don't go below because if you fail, you can't graduate and then you have a problem.

They never asked me for my final transcripts. Even if they do, they're not going to repeal the appointment for one C. The worst that is going to happen is that you'll have to retake the class which will actually turn out to be a good thing. Most mids start in calc I, so you'll be right where you need to be.

Just keep pushing yourself through the class, and you'll be fine.

Yah and chances are, depending on your major, its going to be hard to validate calc.

Worry if you receive an "F" grade. Otherwise, start running, doing a LOT of pushups/situps/pullups...

And more running.

Haha...I hope my son (magikeys) doesn't read this one. I've been all over him to get As in all of his dual-credit classes. So far so good, but I don't want him to slack off! He's taking Calculus and Physics this semester at a local college, and I know he's having to work harder than he may have in the past, but my take on that is, "You'd better get used to it!"

With that said, I don't think you have anything to worry about if you've already received your appointment. (Just as so many others have already mentioned.) You must have shown your wonderful potential in order to earn your appointment, so one less-than-stellar grade isn't going to make anyone change their mind about you. Keep working hard (as I am sure you would anyway). When you take Calculus in your plebe year, you'll be that much farther ahead!!

Congratulations and good luck!

The advise is right on the money. You have the appointment and once you report on I-Day whatever your grades were in HS means nothing. It's how you perform once the AC year starts. Keep stroking in HS Calc it will be a prep class for you once you hit Calc, at the Academy.

Last bit of advice. Calm down and enjoy the last few months of your childhood life with friends and family. July 1st will bring an ubrupt end to that part of you life.

The best thing you can do right now is suck it up and hit the books harder - not just for grades, which is important in and of itself, but because you will be expected to apply what you should have learned in your senior classes. While getting into USNA is your focus now, that is just part of the situation - once you get there you have to be successful in class. Use the time you're spending on worrying about the status of your appointment to study and things will take care of themselves.

Best wishes.
