For all current appointees:

You'll find your appointee kit is active on your portal. There is *a lot* to do, so please get started ASAP.

One very important point -- this year basic cadets will not be permitted to resign from the Academy during BCT. The only exception is resignation required for medical reasons (see page 20, third paragraph from the bottom, of the Instructions to Appointees booklet).

So exciting! The kit makes it more real. And I like the change to not allow cadets to leave during bct.

Wow, that is an interesting change. Be curious to see how that all unfolds in regards to stats and retention.

Insider--For those still waiting...are there actual appointments that are still to be handed out or is that pretty much finished now?

The majority of offers are being made now. Most new appointees should be notified within the next 7 or 8 days. After that there will still be some offers to be made (but not significant numbers).

Thank you. My guy's application is something of a Hail Mary Pass...and with only an SD/VET nomination I have not been terribly hopeful. Good to know! Thank you.

Agree.
Also be interesting to see how someone who really doesn't want to be there impacts their element, flight, and squadron members.
Or, if they just have to wait until the end of BCT to out-process but are separated from the rest of the basics.
One cadet last year resigned after only a couple of weeks because she couldn't stand not having the contact with all her friends via social media. Good thing she isn't in this year's incoming class.

@Insider If we run into technical problems on the appointee kit (Parents' Club Info/Release Form link is down) should we let someone know or just wait it out?

The change is not that drastic from last year. A Cadet who completed the form to leave had to wait until only certain times. For example, once BCT started no one could leave until it was over. My DS said those who decided to leave did hurt the squadron because the motivation to do your best and give every once of yourself was gone.

BCT is hard. It is meant to be hard. It is the first real understanding for most about what a military commitment means. It pushes kids who have never failed to learn to fail and fail forward. It teaches a group from all over the country how to work together to succeed. There will be some that learn really quickly service academy life is not for them. There will be others who come really close to quitting but stick it out. My advice is go in with the right mentality and you will get through it.

Recognition for the Class of 2020 starts tomorrow. It seems like yesterday my DS and I were coming to this board with many of the same questions as those in the Class of 2021. If my DS makes it through Saturday then the Doolie year is really behind him. It goes that fast.

Do the paperwork, ask questions, prepare for BCT by being in great physical shape as those are the things you can control. Don't worry about the rest as it will take care of itself.

Thank you, Insider.

Insider........those still waiting, if they get the appointment they hope for, should they still expect a call from MOC or simply a portal update at this point? TY
