Appointment before others?

Hi, I have been recently nominated by my Congressman along with 5 other candidates under the competitive method.
I asked my ALO if Admissions will only appoint the top nominee if all of us had our files completed.
He said no, and they will decide on my file even if the other candidates on the slate do not have completed files.

Can someone confirm this please?

Yes, it is true, your packet goes up for a WCS when your packet is completed. They do not send up the whole slate at one time. That being said, since it is a competitive nom, the apptmt will not be awarded until all 5 of you on the slate have a WCS. Whoever has the highest WCS wins the nom.

If candidate Smith does not complete their packet until January than the AFA will not award any candidate the nom from that slate until candidate Smith receives their WCS.

There also is no way to find out if and when all of the candidates on the slate will go up to the board for their WCS. All you can do now is wait.

Additionally, remember some candidates will have multiple noms, so just because someone from your slate gets an appointment it does not mean that they will be charged to that slate. For example Candidate Jones is on your slate, but he also has a Presidential, so he might get in under the Presidential. Thus, if you see their name or hear they got an apptmt don't take the leap it came from the slate.

If a candidate on the slate is appointed and charged to the Congressman, would everyone else be placed on the waiting list if that was their only nomination?

Not necessarily. You are now getting into the fine minutia of charging the candidate with a nom.

There is a lot that goes into this procedure, but the biggest two aspects are NOM and WCS.

Do not concern yourself with anything else, but submitting the strongest packet for yourself.

You need the nom to get the apptmt. You have a nom, now you just have to ride the rollercoaster just like everyone else.
