Hello! DD contacted admissions earlier this week after learning from her BGO that she was 3Q and waiting and her admissions advisor said she still has to go back to the board for a yes or no. She is a college reapplicant and BGO said the academic board had already qualified her. Any feedback on this? Is there a separate board after you’ve passed the academic board?

You will hear by April 15. There are many 3Q candidates waiting to hear. DD will be among them.

FWIW .. BGO should not have told DD she was 3Q, and DD should not have called Admission after hearing she was 3Q.
Why is that?
BGO's are told not to tell applicants if they are 3Q. Imagine if every candidate called asking about their status. I understand it is nerve wracking the more time that passes. USNA is doing their best and everyone will have an answer of yes, no or waitlisted by April 15. Only 18 days or 432 hours, 25,920 minutes. Just make sure candidate has a solid plan B, plan C, plan D.

It goes beyond that....being 3Q really doesn't mean anything other than you met the minimum cut with Admissions Board, Medical, and CFA. From there, Admissions has to determine whom, among all the 3Q candidates, is most qualified and gets the Apppointment. There are many 3Q's that get the TWE every year. (I'm sure someone here has the stats)

There are a few thousand candidates every year who are 3Q with a nomination. Only about 1,350 receive offers of appointment, and around 230 of those decline the offer (to either take an offer at another Service Academy, or a scholarship at a civilian college, for example).
