I don't want to sound too eager here, but I'm just asking for anyone's honest and truthful opinion on my chances of getting appointed to the AFA. I'm a Junior in HS right now and am aiming for the 2023 class. My GPA is about a 3.8, I haven't take the SAT yet but my PSAT is 1130 (pretty bad I know, working hard to improve on SAT though), I'm taking two AP class and have a strong A in both, I'm an NHS officer, have a part time internship, FBLA member, workout weekly and run lots, and participate in helping my local community through clubs. Again please be honest and feel free to leave constructive criticism, thank you!

Lukas -- in addition to a good GPA and a good SAT/ACT scores, the Academy will also be looking at your athletic and leadership achievements. A member of a club is good, but the Academy will look to see if you are the founder of a club and/or an officer in a club. They will also be interested if you are a team captain in sports and a varsity letterman. Band, Orchestra and Club sports can work too, but you will have to show leadership and achievement.

You won't know until you apply, and no one here can give you a statistical chance that's better than a guess.
Do your best and apply. That's what everyone who gets an Offer of Appointment has in common.

Yeah I know they really value leadership. My strongest point in that is being an officer in NHS. I would play sports like I did in 9th and 10th grade, but with my internship I'm working till 5 or 6 every weekday so I wouldn't be able to commit to a team sport unfortunately, although the internship is in the finance industry which is something I'm interested in so I think that if I'm doing and internship with somethin I have a passion for it would be better

Read Christcorp's sticky on sports and your academy application. Ask yourself if you have something that fills the role of athletics described there. Your internship sounds great, but sports are about more than just fitness, so you need to have something that fills those gaps.

Yeah it makes sense, I would play a sport if I could. I played football my freshman year and varsity basketball my Sophmore year, but because of my internship every day I do not have time to participate, like I'm working everyday till 5 so since most practices are after school I couldn't commit to that. I think it's also good though that I'm working in a team with other people at my job and applying working well with others into the work force instead of sports this year, I hope it doesn't hurt my chances of getting in too much though as I still meet all the physical requirements.

Lukas, If you are serious about USAFA, see if you can join some kind of a club sport, one that practices after 6 or on weekends. Like others have said, participating on some type of athletic team is very important. If you can't participate in varsity sports due to your internship, and you can't change your internship hours, find a club or league sport you enjoy that fits in your schedule. Christcorp's sticky is a sticky for a reason. Just do it.
