Appointment notification via COVID vaccination email?

I got an email from West Point telling me to get vaccinated. This normally wouldn’t seem unusual, but the email’s wording made it seem like I was offered an appointment (I checked on my candidate portal and there’s nothing mentioning an appointment)… Can somebody please tell me if this is an error or a very unconventional acceptance letter?

“On February 2, 2022 the Department of the Army released Army Directive 2022-02. This directive includes a requirement that all candidates seeking to gain admission to the United States Military Academy (USMA) must be fully vaccinated against COVID-19 prior to signing USMA Form 5-50 (Oath of Office) unless they have an approved pre-accession medical or administrative exemption (to include religious accommodation).

Your Instructions for Applicants Offered Admissions booklet in your Candidate Portal has been updated to reflect this requirement.

If you accept your offer of admission to West Point, you must complete the COVID vaccination series no later than June 13, 2022 to ensure you are fully vaccinated prior to R-Day. You are considered fully vaccinated 14 days after completion of the final dose of the respective vaccine. An update to your admit kit will remove the COVID test survey and you will be required to complete the COVID vaccination survey no later than June 14, 2022.”

My ds got the same email and has not been offered an appointment yet. I think they are just using 1 letter to cover both candidates and appointees.

IMO, I think it is a good sign. In my email at least, it notes how "Your Instructions for Applicants Offered Admissions booklet in your Candidate Portal has been updated to reflect this requirement,", which is only for those offered appointments. I wouldn't take it as an acceptance just yet, but you could be in a waiting period for your nomination source to notify you before you receive official notice of an appointment.

I'm a candidate and didn't get the letter. My assumption (and this is my guess and may not be accurate/true) is that you have been marked as appointed, with the offer coming on the portal tomorrow. USMA has sent letters like this accidentally in the past to appointees who haven't received notification yet. Because USMA usually (definitely not always on these days there's just a trend of it) gives appointments early in the week, they let MOCs tell candidates Tuesday-Thursday before making it public on the portal on Friday.

All speculation- we'll see if it's right or not tomorrow. Either this or it is just a total accident (that for some reason was only sent to some candidates and not all?!?)

It was an email sent to all applicants notifying them of the new Army policy from the SECARMY that requires all Soldiers, including USMA Cadets, to be fully vaccinated or face possible separation. This is to give candidates enough time to complete the series of vaccines prior to reporting to USMA, if selected.

I would not read too much into that notification. The Academy (and Army) just announced that all applicants who accept an offer of admission will be required to be vaccinated. I imagine they are just letting all prospective candidates know that information now to give everyone time to process what that might mean for them and what steps they should take. An official offer of admission will be clear.

Also something to note... if you have not gotten your COVID shots, it's a bit of a planning timeline with other shots you will need to get if you accept an appointment. DD was up to date with all shots that are normally required for school, doctor, etc... but there were still shots that she needed to get again. I would take the note as if you get an appointment and plan to accept, plan accordingly to get the COVID vaccine, along with the other necessary shots.

I received this email shortly after my MOC contacted me with the notification of an appointment. They let your nomination source have at least 72 hours to let you know themselves before they send out an official correspondence. I won't say that this means you're in, but I'd look out for phone calls or emails from whoever nominated you.

You were right! I checked my portal on Friday morning and I saw an offer of appointment!

How soon after 3Q did you get it?
My ds got a 2Q letter on 3 Nov (medical wasn't resolved yet...no waiver, just needed an AMI). He got his nomination on the 25th of Jan and appointment on 3 Feb. We were expecting to get a NWL letter after the nom but appointment came instead.

He also got a LOE on 19 Oct.
